We're on vacation this week at the beach. Was at the mercy of the old IPod as to what to listen to this week. The houses that we rent never have any kind of decent sound system. At least this one had a 42" LCD in the living room. In the SUV we had the XM radio which is great for traveling. Hovered between the Jazz Standards and the 40's and 50's stations.
At home I have some new CD's that arrived while I was away.

I'm not as classy this morning - just some electronic stuff - not their best - but good.

lets see if this hotlink works..... it does!!! lol - suckers.

Anyways - now that I am back full time as audioreview site manager and working from home I get to listen to music almost non-stop. I hate to say it - the vinyl hasn't come out much. To distracting to get up a flip every 20min. Thanks PC for the Magnavox CPD again - the laid back sound makes listening easy for long periods.

Noticed you got PoppaC wire in your sig.

Just to let you know...my good buddies over at "The Poppa-Chubby Company" also has his famous wire "The Frenchmon Series" edition planted in my home theater doing front channel duty. Its a fine series by the way.

I actually - two sets. I currently am running the EC PI-2 amplifier bi-wired into the PMC TB2i bookshelf speakers.

I have two different gages. The thicker gage going into the woofer and a thinner gage going into the tweeter.

I noticed right away this combo pushed the treble to a higher volume and added a greater feeling of 'excitement' to the system. This can boarder line on being too harsh and fatiguing when using the EC PC-1 CDP - but that harshness can be tamed with ICs that slightly roll off the top. Or I can just have shorter listening sessions.

What I really like about this combo is that now the treble sounds more solid. There is plenty of headroom still, but the treble no longer sounds like it is being blown away in the wind. Or that overly airy sound. I like a solid treble, and it gives me that.

When playing vinyl the combination is perfect. The vinyl doesn't posses that hard CD sound that can be fatiguing and with the pumped up treble the TB2i speakers feel more balanced between the tweeter and woofer.

The speakers also seem to have focused the bass. It now sounds more center.

Staging and mids don't appear much changed compared to the standard speaker wire I had before. I've actually noticed, these two seem to be more effected by my choice in power cable, at least with the combo I have running currently.

Overall I like the PC specials. They are a little hard to move around, but other than that they seems to have acted much like the solid copper core ICs I have, but in a better way.

Besides the speaker cables PC sent me a turn table weight. Now I honestly wasn't expecting much to happen with that but boy was I wrong. The bass is way more defined and punchy with the weight on. The music sounds more livelier and cleaner all around.

I'm very happy with the weight, what a wonderful gift!

Was able to spend some time listening Sat. night. After opening a bottle of Willette Single Barrel Bourbon that I picked up during my summer travels through the Florida Panhandle, it was - Andrew Bird's Noble Beast, Beck's Sea Change and Pavement's Terror Twilight.

listening to their streaming radio - pretty good stuff - a lot of instrumental stuff - great so far for being able to work to.

    http://asthmatickitty.com/

and i really like the Guano Padano track "Epiphany". imma have to check out more of that.

Beequeen is good too - 'the edie three step' - great mellow music with some psychotic cut up lyrics on top.

    Wynton Marsalis "The Magic Hour"

Sometime you pull something out of your collection you havent played in a while and you sorta forget what such an outstanding piece it really is. This CD is like that....it makes you want to just grove along with the music.

    Apocalyptica, World's Collide
I would describe Apocalyptica as hard Alternative with Cellos as the lead instruments, some instrumentals and some with guest vocalists. Very good stuff.

How is that Stanley Turrentine? I've got Blue Hour and it's one of my top jazz favorites. Can you compare or comment? Such a rich, 'come on' sound he's got. Can't complain about Sugar either; pleases both the Turrentine and the Hubbard fan--Sultry + Sizzle.

Yes Noddin, I have both of those. That set with the 3 Sounds is fantastic, you don't need to compare. They all have merit and should be in your colection. Aside from Hustlin you should get That's Where It's At. These two LPs are Turrentine at his most fluid.

I am a big Hubbard fan. He blew a geat set on Sugar, but IMO his best sideman work was with Hancock. Empyrean Isles was all Hubbard, he stole the show.

We musn't forget Benson and Carter on Sugar, the whole line up is stupid good. Back in the day Benson could shred with the best of them, he still can but chooses to be "smooth". Here's a couple of rec's for Benson and Carter too...

Ozric Tentacles Just Blows my mind!

Hey if you have not got this in your collection, get it right away.

MrP put this on last night and it was just outstanding. So I asked for a copy and this mornig it just knocked my socks off. I guess its sorta like Jazz Fusion with a little space music thrown in. This is one of those recordings that if played through warm or laid back speakers, you will miss a lots of high end detail.
