I primarily listened to stuff while I was making a mixtape for my co-worker borne out of a conversation about the "deepest" year in hip-hop... making a strong case for 1994!

    Hey Rae,

Not a big fan of your 2nd hip hop post, but I dig the first.
I was spinning some old(er) school hiphop earlier this week and couldn't get enough of it. In the name of O.C. Word Life, I think I'll spin some DITC on wax tonight.

If you are feeling something outside of hiphop, try this for a spin.
One of the best finds for me this year.
Nothing new, but it still gets it right.

    Peace,
    JRA

Ha! The first one is all east-coast stuff, which I vastly prefer from that era. The second gets into some g-funk, which is really more toward my co-worker's taste than mine. Very observant! Although I will go toe-to-toe with you any day on the OutKast and UGK records.

'94 was a fine year but pre 90's was better. There was no east/west bullchit. The music was new and exciting.

Some great albums in your list Rae. I would have added another of my early 90's faves, infact, it's my favorite hip hop album ever put out. It's in one word...perfect.

heres one that i THOUGHT was recent but NO, its from '04. i had heard some of robert miles' music and just thought it was sort of pedestrian smooth stuff but this is quite stimulating.

i have numerous other trilok gurtu recordings, most of which are very addictive so when 'gurtu' showed up in the title of this one, i jumped on it.

Can't seem to stop playing this. It's only available on itunes, cdbaby and Spotify (do you americans still not get Spotify?) and it bothers me greatly that there isn't a CD to purchase. Doesn't seem available for ilegal download anywhere either (I'd gladly buy the CD, but there is no way in hell i'm paying for a crappy download)

    Anyway:

    The John Carver Band (Eponymous)

I remember the days when I thought 128kbps sounded great and had never spent more than 10 bucks on cables...

    Hey Yo...

So, I broke into the palace
With a sponge and a rusty spanner
She said : "Eh, I know you, and you cannot sing"
I said : "That's nothing - you should hear me play piano"

Aww yeah!! I wonder if Zak Sally's Wipers cover band (called TOGPTFFSOTWOTERATSYOA for "Three Old Guys Play The First Five Songs Off The Wipers’ Over The Edge Record And The Song 'Youth Of America'") is playing anywhere around town this Halloween season?

Definitely. But the main reason was I'm putting together a comp for a friend.
