So in another discussion group that I'm part of people are really complaining about how shitty this season has been. The writing is sloppy and the storyline seems rushed. The few answers we've received have almost been thrown at us in passing as if they don't really matter (the whispers, the numbers).

What are your thoughts on season six so far. Are you enjoying it, or has it been a dud for you?

Are you expecting great things from the finale? Or are you preparing for disappointment?

i'm enjoying it. some episodes felt like duds, which is odd given the last season and all, you'd think they'd have gotten the duds out of the way earlier and not waste any time with this season, but i think that is also their point in how this season is structured. given the article i've posted above and a few other interviews i've read, they DON'T want to give answers to a lot of the questions.

i like what they said (to some degree) in the times article about not giving an answer that discredits everyone elses thoughts, but leaves the debates open.

in a strange way, (and stick with me on this one) but for any big sci-fi/fantasty fans, it's like hearing the name of a character pronounced by the author, and all of a sudden you realize you had been pronouncing it "wrong" the entire time you were reading the book. i never liked that.

but overall i think it'sa strong season with some powerful emotions in it. even if there are 3-4 duds overall, which is still a lot in a 16 (17) episode season, it's not horrible either. especially given the gems of Ab Aeterno, Happily Ever After (or any Desmond episode, really) and The Last Recruit.

Really liked the part about intentional ambiguitiy...I think that's the been the fundamental strength of the show and what makes it great. This leads to theories and ideas from the audience, you get that buy-in from the viewer, and in a way we all become co-writers of the Lost story. That's something else really.

I'm on record saying I hope they don't try to answer every question - no answer could satisfy all expectations, many set so impossibly high by the viewers who've chosen to invest so much into the show. I think it'd be neat to leave some doors open and give the Lost mythology some enduring immortality.

I may be way off, but I am sticking to my prediction from 3 years ago that at the end, they step off the plane in LA and the last 6 years were just in your head.

I don't see how they could actually come up with any feasible explanation as to why everything happened that could make any sense.

As said earlier, this season was rushed I guess mainly because the writers expected to have a few more seasons in which to mess with our minds. Then someone told them this is it, wrap it up the best you can.

In the end, none of it ever happened!

    We shall see.

i thought it was after season 4 (?, maybe? or during season 3) that the producing team got the network to agree to the end date. from then, they knew they had 6 seasons and what the ultimate story arc was going to be. the most floundering was in that 3rd and 4th season before they knew when things would end so they could have an arc

Yes. I believe it was in season three that the producers basically got down on their knees and begged for an end date so they wouldn't have to write any more foolishness like the totally irrelevant Nikki and Paulo storyline.

I'm holding on to my prediction that the show ends with Jack and Fake-Locke sitting on the beach just like Jacob and MIB did. Maybe they'll even be playing backgammon.

hey hey hey now, easy there tiger! it was not irrelevant... we learned that Hugo's dad liked to watch the show that nikki was on back in LA... that was very important. crucial some might say.

This is how it will end.

Jack will be the new Jacob.
Sawyer will be the new Smokey.

I'll probably just get a poster of a shirtless Sawyer and spend my evenings staring dreamily at it.

I know that you didn't mean any harm GM, no big deal. It's Hyfi's fault for going there in the first place (I also know that he meant no harm). It's the price that I occasionally pay for being the only female in what sometimes feels like the men's locker room.

Now back to our regularly scheduled program.

Tonight's episodes is called, "What they died for". Do you think we'll lose more Losties tonight?

What are the rest of you going to do on Tuesday nights?

Did you at least enjoy all the pics I sent you?

More Losties must go. I'm thinking that Blonde must go. She's been like a red-shirt for the last several weeks.

    Baseball on Tuesday nights...

Let's play a game. What do you think will be the final outcome for each remaining character? I'll go first...

Claire: Smokey shows his true evil by sacrificing Claire to further his goal in a way that would be akin to holding up your child to shield you from a bullet.

Kate: Ends up in a precarious situation where she must choose between Sawyer and Jack. During her moment of hesitation, a timeshift occurs where the earth opens up and swallows her whole. A quick decision would have taken her to one or the other side of where the earth opened up and saved her life.

Richard: Begs Hurley to kill him and put him out of his eternal misery. Hurley reluctantly obliges.

Hurley: As a result of offing Richard, Hurley takes his eternal place as protector of the island. But not before making contact with the people who have been sending the Dharma food and arranging for an eternal lifetime supply of Appolo bars. Eventually the guilt of killing Richard overtakes him and his emotional eating gets really out of hand. He eats enough Appolo bars to make him explode in a flurry of flying flesh that makes the destruction of the Black Rock and Four-toed Statue look like nothing more than the pop from a cherrybomb.

Jack: After realizing that he can’t fix everything and turn back the clock, Jack has a nervous breakdown. In the Sideways story he is admitted to the same psychiatric hospital as Libby where, together, they write this crazy story about a plane crashing on an Island and all this crazy shit happens that no one would ever believe. They transform the story to a screenplay and it is eventually purchased by George Lucas who turns it into a Hollywood blockbuster.

Sawyer: After losing both Juliet and Kate, Sawyer vows to never love again. But then he catches Miles washing his hair in the ocean and realizes that all along he’s just been playing for the wrong team.

Ben: After realizing that his whole life’s work has been a sham and that Smokey used him to murder both Locke and Jacob, Ben uses the Donkey Wheel to get back to the real world where he becomes a Tibetan Monk and takes a vow of silence. He lives the remainder of his troubled life in total silence. Years later he succumbs to a fatal case of laryngitis. No one attends his funeral.

    Okay, your turn!

A fitting end. I like it. But as she's falling, she calls out one of their names. Which one will it be.

Hurley would never. Maybe he'll just drug him and put him in a rubber room.

Flashes from the movie The Meaning of Life flashed through my head here.

Now who's being funny? Wasn't there a movie (or several movies) where everything a person wrote came true?

Can that really happen? If he was on the wrong team, wouldn't he already know? Maybe he'll just experiment a little. A good switch hitter is hard to find.

i'm guessing either 4 or 6 characters die in tonight's episode.

they're setting it up to seem like jack will replace jacob, but i think having hurley replacing jacob would probably make the most interesting story, character-arc wise.

jack taking over for jacob would appear to be the most fate/destined outcome for his character. hurley taking over for jacob would require the strongest character shift to take that position of power, from his 'humble' beginnings of a crazy dude.

basically i'm rooting for the underdog here. and the better story. the guy who was meant to take over, taking over, isn't as interesting as the guy you never thought could lead, finally leading.
