Geoffcin, I have a big storage so I store them. I sell some as well but if I see a great deal I go for it.

I post pics of the interesting gears because it is nice when you see a picture and something new!

Nice score, particularly on the Energy speakers, never heard them but from what I have read they are very highly rated.

Hey luvtolisten, you haven't been here for a while. They are really great speakers, I was very impressed when I heard them. A week ago I got a Pioneer SX-1050

Hi Dak, I saw the 650. Now a 1050 too? I've heard evrything from the 750 on up is special. Man, when you're hot, you are HOT!!

Things are slow here, all the college kids back in school buying up the goodies in the Goodwill stores, and getting too cold and rainy for the garage sales.

Here's my latest acquisition, a mint Classé DR-10. Its a hefty 46 lbs for a 100-watter. The 6 OP transistors on the top are the left channel. The right channel OP transistor bank is underneath.

I worked for Lafayettte Radio "in the day," and remember the full compliment of receivers of which the LR-2200 was one. All were actually first-rate pieces of equipment, easily able to hold their own against anything from anyone else, and all were also amazingly reliable too. The 2200 wasn't a quad unit, but a 2-channel unit that put out about 25 watts per channel into 8 ohms.

I believe there's a "4-channel" position on the speaker selector knob, but that was for a built-in Dynaquad system that most Lafayette 2-channel receivers had at the time. Either another set of speakers could be connected as a pair of "remote" speakers, or as rear speakers in the quasi-quadraphonic setup (Dynaquad) which, at times, worked very nicely.

Lafayette's ultimate demise had nothing to do with being competitive with other retailers, but from the mind-set of one man - Arthur J. Blackburn - who bankrupted the company in only 3 years, primarily by taking delivery of millions of dollars of obsolete 23-channel CB equipment after the FCC had already stated that only 40-channel units could be sold.

A once successful chain, then about 55 years old collapsed thanks to this man.

Nice amp Glen, I too would like to see what else is in the system. What are your impressions of the sound?

I haven't figured that out yet. I just got the amp a couple of days ago. The first thing I do when I get a new used solid state amp is check the outputs for DC offset. The offset on this amp is quite low but stll needs zeroing out. After I do that, and check and adjust the bias to factory spec (if necessary), I will do some serious listening. The results of that listening will determine which of three systems it will find a home in. The other components in the evaluation system will be: Marantz Reference SA-11S2 SACD player, Classé CP-50 preamp, and PSB Stratus Gold i speakers.

The amp looks to be about perfect for rounding that system out, very nice.

Sounds like you are tech savvy, I wish you lived closer to me ol' buddy

I plan on doing a few tasteful mods to the DR-10. Its open layout and fact that the op-amps are socket-mounted, lends itself easily to mods -- certainly much more so than my CA-300. I've been doing scratch builds, restorations and mods for the past 40 years. Here's a sampling of past projects:

DIY balanced power line conditioners/surge protector(s):
    DIY Balanced AC Power Conditioner

CA-300 binding post and power inlet upgrade:

Phase Linear 400 Series 2 input and output connector upgrades and addition of DC protection circuitry: http://img.villagephotos.com/p/2003-5/191557/1927085

    SAE-2400 refurb/re-cap/connector upgrades:

Custom DC blocker - examples of some of the units built and sold to a few audio discussion forum members. Eliminates amplifier mechanical hum caused by saturation of toroid transformer from DC offset on the AC power line: Actually sold one just yesterday:

One-off IR wireless learning remote switcher for Classé legacy amps with non-standard 12V trigger. Built and sold to an Audiogon member to trigger his CA-150 amp:

Glen, the link for the schematic for you balanced power conditioner in your original post doesn't seem to work anymore. Can you supply a new link??? I'd be very interested.

Well, that was more than 6 years ago. I no longer keep that schematic. I scribbled something together (see link). Its a basic schematic. Surge protection is provided by a Littlefuse iTMOV, a three-lead varistor with an integrated thermal element that opens in the event of catastrophic failure, mounted close to where power enters the enclosure. The third lead can be wired to any type of indicating or cutout circuit. I use a simple indicating LED with dropping resistor and diode to provide 12V to illuminate the LED. The LED is mounted on the front panel of the enclosure, and indicates that power is on and surge protection is active. Opening of the thermal element also cuts power to the LED. The iTMOV can be eliminated if you choose to do so.

I will no longer be acquiring pieces of gear. I have decided that I have a synergetic, well thought out chain which brings me joy. Now I will focus only on optimizing the gear I have. On that note, I have sent out my EICO HF85 to my local tech (a tube artist) for a complete work-up including an RIAA mod to the Lipschitz curve.

    I bought a Nagaoka MP-200...

3 matched pairs of Tung Sol 6L6GC-STR...

A Moth MKI tonearm for my Ariston...

And a 400G portable HD for my digital files...
