Seriously, I hope it is your Holy Grail, and you are completley happy with the results.
Myself I know I'll still pick up stuff here and there, even when I know it's not quite as good as what I already have. Just the variety I like, or just the hunt.

I am trying to get there myself but old habits die slowly...... I got an Adcom 535L arriving on Monday for my garage set-up......

Hey Kid, what are you running with the 535L?
About a month ago I hooked up my GFP 555 II and GFA 535. I really enjoy it. I don't know if I like it better than my Cambridge 640V2. The Adcom is more dynamic to me a little more punch, little better low end, good with pop and rock. But the Cambridge seems a little more refined, better definition, a little better mids.Better for ballads and acoustics. I like them both, but if I had to choose, I think I'd go with the Cambridge just a little better overall to (just my personal opinion and the volume level,what I listen too). But the Adcom is no slouch.

Hahaha. Welllll....you could be right. I still have a computer system that I tinker with. As far as my main system goes, I am done for some time. Everything sounds great.

You have to ask yourself, is all of your gear running at optimal levels? Have you done everything possible to get everything you can out of it?

The answer for me is simply no. I am more than halfway through what I want to do now. Today will be a special one, no kids, no wife and a pile of new stuff to install and tweak. I will relish every moment the same way a married man does when he gets laid!!

Adcom gear from that time period was highly regarded (see review below) and can be purchased at relatively bargain prices compared to alot of comparable gear. So great sound at a good price seems to be the sensible route at this point and Adcom more than fits the bill IMO.

Since picking up the GAS Thalia pre-amp I have been looking for a quality amp to match with it. Most GAS amps are out of my price range. The Kenwood Basic M1D is on the sidelines for the moment and I don't want to break up the Adcom GFA 545 II / GFP 555 combo in my rack so when the opportunity came up to get this 535L (same as the 535 but it has level controls) I went ahead and got it. My initial plan is to pair the Thalia and the 535 up and see how they sound with the Polk 10's and the EV Leyton's.I will also get around to to trying combinations of the Adcom amps with the Thalia and GFP-555 to see which sound best with the Heresy II's.

I picked up a Adcom GFA-2535 from a friend about 10 years ago. It's in the HT rack and powers the house system. Runs at 2 ohms driving 8 pairs of bookshelf speakers throughout the house.

I put a couple of small computer fans on it just in case - but, it runs pretty cool.

A very solid amp and it sounds great. It was purchased new ~1995 as I recall.

Well since we are on the topic......the latest Adcom showed up today.
Unfortunately I will be going out of town for the next couple of weeks so I won't have a chance to try it out.

While I don't exactly buy the conventional wisdom that Klipsch Heresy's are light on bass I had the opportunity to pick up this little Velodyne CHT-8 sub off of CL for not too much. Nice little unit that adds bass without overpowering the main speakers. Small enough to put it in with the main system without having to move things around.

But i had gotten to where alot of what i see would be a side ways move. Or worse a move down.
But teh trek for that upgrade still goes on.

Yeah, I could see how getting a piece just six times a year might be frustrating

Toss up between a pair of Koss cm 1020 and a pair of Tannoy mallorcans for main channel speakers. Infinity Rse would come in behind them, but connected to a M&K sub. Should i mention that i enjoyed the mallorcans as well(perhaps even more ) connected to another M&K sub.
After these its a rather large toss up between infinty(lowerend 70s and RS7) and smaller advents or a pair of prodigys. They all sound excellent.

But top two are the Mallorcans and the Koss CM 1020. Both give excellent detail to the music i listen to.
Which is alot of acoustic music. For guitars i just may have to give the nod to the Koss.

But the single point source on the tannoy has spoiled me with the coherency. Id have to connect the koss as mains again to see which i actually prefer. But that wont be for a while.

One of my friends(ex gf) has noted that the Tannoys have a richer sound than the Koss and i thought the koss sounded better. in regards to the fullness of the sounds emanating from the speakers......

Interesting the Koss sound so good, I would not have expected that. Typically when a name is sold it gets stuck on cheap gear.

i dont think i added full frontal nudities of the koss. When i have time i will ad pics of the front of the drivers.

The mid and woofer are made by heppner. I think that should portray quality.
The speakers are rather large in contrast to the 10 inch woofer.

When playing music with bass guitar, it is quite interesting to hear the strings being plucked or if theyre using picks. Seeing others pics of the crossovers, i see that they are rather complicated. Excellent build qualitiy over all.




Right now i just plugged in a pair of Celestion Ditton 15 book shelf speakers i bought a while back. Connected to a M&K sub. Not sure what to deduce of them yet. although from what im hearing theyre ok.

Well I am back today with another minty vintage piece! Kenwood KA-6000 like new. I gave it a good cleaning and cleaned the pots and switches. Sounds great, surprisingly it has bigger capacitors than the other Kenwood amps that are more powerful than this one! Here are few big pictures!!!

How did I miss this ? She's beautiful. Looks like my old KA-5002.

Nice amp Glen, I too would like to see what else is in the system. What are your impressions of the sound?

Well, after adjusting the DC offset, re-biasing the amp to factory spec, upgrading the IEC power inlet with a Furutech gold, and stock posts with WBTs, I did some initial listening. I switched it in place of my CA-300, running in balanced mode.

From the time I dropped the first CD, the DR-10 revealed no surprises. The sound is typical Classé, as I expected. As I've seen reported about the DR series amps, the sound was slightly dark. Compared to the CA-300, I think the DR-10 midrange was slightly more holographic, and it had a little more image depth, both attributes I like very much. To my ears, the CA-300 had a slightly more forward treble and upper midrange, and slighly superior bass slam and extension.

The DR-10 holds promise for biamping my speakers, with the DR-10 on top and CA-300 on the bottom. The deciding factor will be further listening, and running the 10 with a power cord similar to the Acoustic Zen with Oyaide connectors that I'm using with the CA-300.

Hello, John, and welcome to AR Forums.

You dad got some very nice equipment in the day. Others might have a more precise idea of the value of these items, but his (and all) McIntosh has significant residual value.

"Mac" tuners are still quite sought after by aficianados and collectors, especially certain late-model analog, but also tube models like the MR67. Condition is a big factor; if fully operational and in very good cosmetic condition prices will be much higher. If in very good or better condition the MR67 might go for, say, $400+

Solid state Mac integrates like the MA5100 are less sought after but will still sell for several hundred dollars depending on the condition. So the MA5100 in very good condition might also go for $400+.

N.B. that you won't get these prices your local hifi retailer Audiogon, (see HERE), is a famous internet seller. eBay can also work.

What's going on with this site of late ? I posted the following infomation earlier and the post did not appear. Also had problems yesterday.

Following are bluebook prices. I did not find anything on the Sony reel-to-reel, but information I came across suggests it is a low level model that is now not worth much today.
