As a stand alone player I would agree I think they sacrifice sound quality for storage space. But by connecting it using the optical connection to the MSB DAC the SQ is taken up several notches.

Well, Kid, some would wonder why not embrace the music server. Rip those CD's to a hard drive, put them back in the case and not worry about them any more. If you kept them lossless the sound should be theoretically the same. At least your option is superior to mp3

In the long term you are right. As usual I have opted for the least expensive short term solution.

I always rip and burn backup copies for use - especially in the car system and keep the originals as master copies.

When you upload the picture, you see few links and you choose the forum link so when you post, it appears like a picture!!

That's exactly what I do with my Yamaha kid. It's a 5 disc with toslink output into my dac.

I ended up with a pair of KLH 900B. They are bookshelf speakers but the cabinets are pretty deep and heavy! I was thinking of replacing the Minimus-7 but when I hooked them up I was like no no. Those KLH have good high and ok lows but the mids you can't hear them, I have to get the volume very very high so they start to feel! My ears prefer to keep the Minimus-7 for now.

Yes they both work but I can barely hear them! I will just stick with the Minimus and see those KLH! When I put the Minimus back the sound is more musical and better!

I think you just found out why people say to stay away from KLH except for their vintage stuff. Another one of those companies that is shell of its former self.

I will check them out tonight but I doubt because they both sound the same!

That was the time that KLH was making kind of junky stuff so I am not surprised!

Thanks for the input Dak. I have heard to stay away from anything higher than the model 34, although the 911B had some favorable reviews considering the price.Too bad about the 900, but I do appreciate your honesty. Can't win them all.

I have had only from the junk KLH speakers but I see the old ones have good reviews, maybe one day I will get my hands on a pair of them!

I swapped my Paradigm Model 7s for a pair of KLH Model 38 with my father in law, just for kicks. They sound quite nice, very laid back much like a Dynaco. I wouldn't rec them for any kind of main/reference listening but for secondary/HT/computer they are ideal.

Luvtolisten, They actually sound good. Ive read else where that they are a direct precurser to the mach one. Even similar looks sans the horn mid and tweet.

For Rock music they are very good. Some blues as well. Not so much for smooth jazz...Turn up the volume a bit and they seem to present an accurate rendition. Right down to the bass. Over all seems to posses an airy sound with instruments.(not very good at describing audio terms)

Currently they are moved on top of the tannoy and klipsch...Not sure how long theyll stay there. Maybe i will move them back on the floor...but time will tell.

Well today I got a set of vintage Yamaha amp and tuner! Both in great condition. I got a good price on them too. I haven't had silver Yamaha before so that is my first set.

Yeah John, the phono stage has a lot of options, I still haven't tried it because the turntable is connected to my other system. I saw it when the guy posted it and I was the first one to email him, he said he had over 20 people in few hours so I was the lucky one to grab it. Yamaha stuff gets harder and harder to find!

Chubbs, your reply inspired me to research further the Model 38 ( I believe you, just enjoy reading & researching audio) and people that have the 38's do enjoy them and they do rank well in the KLH series, although there isn't as much info on them compared to the more well known model's. Thanks for the input, always good learn something new. The 38 is kind of a sleeper.Good, but not as well known. I never heard the 38's, but I have heard the Paradigm 7's. I liked them, and almost bought a pair, but at the time could only afford the little brother, the Titians. I 'm sure your father in law is happy too with the trade..
