The recent post relating to the recent demise of Eric Woolfson (!) brought to my attention the singular talent of one Steve Blasamo, who worked with Woolfson in his sequel to Tales of Mystery and Imagination, (appropriately) entitled, Poe.

Balsamo, was "discovered" by Woolfson, who heard about Balsamo's talents while in production of Jesus Christ Superstar; a performance that is said to have moved Weber to tears. Here's his performance or Gethsemane....

I had no idea this existed (the movie soundtrack of this). I have this one, which was pretty popular it seems based on the number of used copies I see and have had from buying various collections:



How is the movie soundtrack in comparison?

I have always preferred the studio recording, but both are very good and the soundtrack features an extra song. The studio version however has Ian Gillan in the role of Jesus while the soundtrack features Ted Neely. Several years ago I saw the stage version, featuring Neely and I was totally blown away by the show. It was also on December 22nd and had snowed that day so the Christmas thing was really happening that day. Great music and a great experience, can't wait for the movie to appear on bluray.

Ever visit Toronto BR? The Trinity church is located in the center of the downtown's largest shopping center. The Eaton Center. They had to build around the church because it's a landmark, and of course, a church. Next time you're in Toronto you should check it out. Will give you a new appreciation for that album. I am a HUGE CJ fan!!!

Pop, I've never been to Toronto but I would love to visit Canada sometime. One of my partners is from Winnepeg and he's been trying to get me to fishing with him in Canada.

Have you guys heard the Trinity Revisited album? I like it better than the original. Also, if you havent heard Mazzy Star you should give them a listen if you like the CJ's.

No I havent but I will check them out.

By the way, the Cowboy Junkies will be playing at the Dakota Jazz Club here in Minneapolis in March and we are planning on going to see them.

I really like Double Fantasy quite a lot. I scared one of my friends recently when I told him I even like most of the Yoko tracks on it.

I've been listening to ambient music, and prior to this last week I had only listened to a smattering of it. I like it much more than I expected, especially the Eno stuff:

NASA Voyager Recordings - Symphonies of the Planets 1, 2

The Voyager Recordings are more interesting for the way the recordings were obtained than the recordings themselves, but they are still pretty neat, especially for background/distracted listening.

Double Fantasy actually got hammered by the critics when it was released. Of course, following his death, they were afraid of seeming too harsh and eased up on it. I can get through the Yoko stuff, but that's about it. She actually did an ok job of back ups on Woman.

I went through a big trip-hop/ambient phase. I still listen to some of that stuff from time to time. Have you heard any Thievery Corporation?

I think that's an underrated Thievery Corp record. It seems lots of people praise Mirror Conspiracy and kinda overlook their other ones. For me Richest Man in Babylon is every bit its equal. Thing really kicks off in pretty great style and doesn't let down for me.

I'm just rolling through a few different Booker T & the MGs records this afternoon, all nice and comfy just moved into a new house over the weekend...well, process took a few weeks, but the final stuff went down and I actually started living in the palce this weekend.
