Not a waste of time if done properly. You shouldn't biwire with a receiver anyway, that is the waste. If your going to do it, you use a pre amp and two(2) amps, different amps. You run the highs with an amp that excels in midrange and highs. You run the bottom end with an amp that compliments lows.

Using a biwire cable and the same receiver/amp on the other end is useless since your sending the same signal which the speaker does not care if split or not, it's still just the same signal.
