As any casual observer can tell you, us Losties are a info seeking bunch. I would have a hard time beliving that the tattos on Jack haven't either been digitally altered, or cosmetically changed for the show in order for the message of the last show to be verified.

How stupid would that be if it turns out the tattos say something completly different than the now assumed message. I seriously doubt the writers would allow that to happen.

His permanent tattos wouldn't have to be changed. Nowadays, simply manipulate the shot dititally.

i thought i read in one of the many articles ive read, that the creators left in his original tattoos and were going to incorporate them into the story. i'm just wondering if "eagle high up, cleaving the space" can also mean, "you are among us but not one of us" as the chinese alphabet is far more interpretive than the english one or at least more so than a simple "bare" and "bear" change.
although i guess they could just go in and morph the tats for any closeups they needed. i'll surf the other lost sites and see what i find!

Last night's episode was kinda ho hum. But they can't all be as riveting as last week. The commercials kept saying that three answers would be revealed. But what were they? The only one that was obvious to me was that The Others live on the same island as the Losties and not on the second island. So what? Which island they live on wasn't really a burning question in my mind.

We see Cindy and a couple of the kids. Was that supposed to be an answer? How about answering the question...WHERE THE HELL HAVE THEY BEEN FOR THE LAST THREE MONTHS?????

Was number three, the origins or the meaning of Jack's tattoo? Another, who cares.

And what was the big deal about Juliet being "marked". When the sheriff read that execution was off the table but that Juliet would be "marked", the response from everyone was like that was an even worse fate than execution. Why?

And was it just me, or was that Sheriff more than a little creepy with her deep monotone voice. She talked like a zombie (if zombie's could talk).

Also, when Jack pulled up his sleeve, right after getting his tattoo, I thought that he only had the ring of chinese letters on his arm. He didn't yet have all the other stuff above it. So there's more tattooing that must have followed that initial tattoo.

And the Thai praying mantis said something along the lines that Jack was "a leader, a great man. But that will make you lonely". There was a little more but that's all I can remember off the top of my head.

Hmmm, I really liked this week's episode. And I loved the "That's what it says but not what it means, bit"...as if that isn't a prelude to something.

Really, a good follow up to last weeks cool epidsode.

No, the point is that the Lost crowd is pretty fanatical. If for example, Jacks Tattoo in Chinese said "I like to smooch with pigs", and they tried to pass it off with "He is amound us, but not one of us" then I would be willing to bet it would be picked up on.

Nothing is left to chance on this show...thats all. If his real life tattoos fit in, and they can write around them, so be it. But if they needed to, it wouldn't be that hard to alter them to fit the story.

Can't disagree with what your saying here about the detail making the show work well. Except sometimes a tattoo is just a tattoo. We'll accept weird monsters on an island the world doesn't know about, but bending the truth of the meaning of foreign language tattoos to suit a purpose is not allowed? All I'm saying is they can choose to not alter the tattoo and the scene is just as effective.

The proof of this is in fact that if I had no internet access and Kam didnt' post the true meaning of the actor's tattoo, I wouldn't have a clue what the tattoo really said or meant beyond what the show told me...and most Lost fans I know aren't nearly as fanatic about it as I am, so unless they speak whatever language it was, they probably don't care either? And for those that do look to the web or whatever to double check the tattoos, well, if they double check every detail on the show like that expecting to find something, well, most of the time they'll come back with nothing anyway despite the large number of situations where there was a subtle message planted. No loss there.

Not every little detail is intentional. Though I will admit, it would have been cool if they DID alter the tatts intentionally to play with our minds
