I've got an older Luxman, I think R-110, it is a very clean sounding receiver with a lot of detail but lacks bass authority.

It that an R-404, Dataka? If so, I'd guess you're right about it being one of the last. According to the Luxman Vintage Audio site, the 404 was made in 1985, (see here). Alpine bought Lux in 1984 so this might have been one of last pre-Alpine designed models.

Alpine used the brand for quite a while after that, sold off Luxman in the early '00s. And of course, Luxman is back in the game today with some pretty nice stuff, (see here). I'm likin' this L-550AII Class A integrated amp.

I owned this C-120A preamp, (bought used), for a while but wasn't sufficiently impressed to keep it ...

Yea that is the same model. I know Luxman was making nice stuff but they are not that popular and they are very hard to find. I don't see them on craigslist at all.

Mr. Peabody, you are right, it really doesn't have bass but the mids and highs are pretty decent.

I started a new thread but will post here too. It's a Vector Research VR-2200A and sounds much better than its looks would lead you to believe

Nice! I remember the name, in the late seventies. They offered twice the power at almost half the price of their competition. Were they an independent company? Back then rumors were flying around they were associated with a larger company that produced high quality amps.

This is just speculation but the back of the receiver is absolutely identical to the Rotel 403, right down to the speaker output fuse cover. Nothing inside said Rotel on it that I saw. I'm thinking it may have been built on the same line as Rotel but with a generic power transformer, caps, etc. It does sound very nice for $10.00

    Boston Accoustics T930 II

I was browsing the local Craiglist and found these last posted over a month ago. They were listed Very reasonable. The add stated if he didn't sell them within a week, he would donate them. Just for laughs I sent him an email. He still had them! He thought the woofers were shot, but they just need to be refoamed. I became a fan of BA about 2 years ago, when I bought a used pair of A 60 II's & HD9's at a garage sale. I remember the A60's, at the time they were out I wasn't impressed. (I had Cerwin Vega's at the time)But with age my taste has changed. I still enjoy rock, but it's not all I listen too now as I did back then. I haven't had a chance to really listen to them yet, only to check out to make sure all the drivers were working, they need to be refoamed first. They have had decent reviews for the most part. I was going to recap them too. I was going to buy poly caps for the higher frequencies, and electrolytic for the lower frequencies (which is a 120uf, 70uf caps which would break the bank if I did all poly caps). I have bought electrolytic caps from Parts Express in the past, they seem to sound okay, but they are just wimpy looking compared to other original caps in quality speakers (new or old), yet rated the same value and same voltage as the original caps. Maybe I'm wrong, but because of the smaller physical size, I question the longevity of the PE caps.Does anyone know of a source where I can buy beefier electrolytic caps without breaking the bank? Also I've read putting a small or insignificant value in parallel with an electrolytic cap can improve the sound. Anyone ever try this?

    Nice pick up LTL!
I have hear A150's and thought they sound pretty good so I will be curious to hear what you think of these once they are re-capped and refoamed.

I also posted a pic on an older thread over in General Audio but here was my pick-up over the weekend.....
My second Oppo score in the last couple of months. Life is good.

Not vintage but I just wanted to share. I received this Energy powered sub. My first touch with Energy sub. It pounds hard and the bass is smooth.

Very nice! I have 2 Energy subs (esw 8's, similar, but down-firing)) nice sub for the money. As you say, smooth. Also very musical and natural (good tone definition, not so much of the artificial boominess). Works well with a 2 channel setup.

Since we are talking about JBL speakers, I got a pair of big monsters. I didn't even know JBL made speakers like that! 15" woofers inside each cabinet. They are not of the best JBL speakers but they are very loud and the bass response it not bad.

Well I hope you are able to get pics posted of your "invisible" 650. I am a fan of the Pioneer SX series. I think you will enjoy the 650.
