Both really, but heavier on the musical implication. New York Dolls --- Buster Poindexter (Hot, Hot, Hot anyone?) --- w/ the Harry Smiths, quite a range of styles. Around new York City he's done alot of small shows to satisfy his jazz/blues side. As far as "persona"...

Yes indeed, not a new album to me by any measure. I have an original 120g pressing, but it's flawless and sounds AMAZING!!!

For anyone who doesn't get the whole James Brown "thing", this album is where you need to start. The band is absolutely cookin'. Vocally JB is in between sweet soul singer and political stream of concious poet. Proof of his genius conveniently pressed onto vinyl. My kid starts dancing as soon as the needle drops, grooves are infectious...

I have been listening to Black Joe Lewis. He has a great sound but owes much to JB. Particularily the call and response with his brass section. Even those who are clueless to JB's music know that much.

Anyhow, I was feeling inspired to write a bit about this one. A real classic...

I know that Crosswinds album. I havent listen to Cobham in years. One heck of a fusion drummer. Good stuff

Even though I long stopped concerning myself with the alignment of my soul with any particular theology... I still enjoy pulling the Jesus Christ Superstar soundtrack out this time of year. A Classic. This is probably the album that I second most associate with childhood memories of Christmas. The first most memorable was some Johnny Cash album that had a song called Ringing the Bells for Jim. That had to be the most depressing Christmas song ever, we made jokes about it for years. Still do.

The father heard church bells at midnight,
a wrong time for church bells to chime.
He went to the tower, found a little girl there,
Said, ‘Why ring the bells at this time?”
“I'm just ringing the bells for Jim, please, Father
ringing the bells for Jim.
I'm sorry I'm cryin' but my brother Jim's dyin'

Man, I wish we still had that album...whatever it was.

But back to Jesus Christ Superstar. Great stuff. What's the Buzz, Everything's Alright. Must listen.

one of the songs has the line "Sorry I'm Crying/My brother Jim's dying/Ring a bell for Jim." Hey, but it's Cash-- what do you expect? Very slow, but some of the songs are good. I'm happy.

For those of you who probably didn't visit my thread. I've been spinning a two disc set of remastered Frank Marino & Mahogany Rush. They recently released a few sets. The one I have has Live/Tales Of The Unexpected/What's Next full length on the two disc set and even though an import only the price of a single U.S. disc. Sounds very good and MR rocks!
