I guess I can post in this thread even if I'm spining plastic instead of vinyl:
Moody Blues - In search of the lost chord

the class a's are getting it a little warm in here, so it's about to sound even better.

I saw the musical on Broadway in 1983 and saw the movie yesterday. Great musical and the record is bringing back some great memories.

I bet that would make a great compilation disc. Nice touch JM.

    I am enjoying these:

    A good night to all

Hey Jayra, congrats must be in order for a new job and a new phase of life. Over here in the middle a district re-alignment has me seeing same duties in a new set of facilities, alot of new "challenges" and not nearly so much free time during the day (certainly not enough to play around with you characters )

Just got done with another listen to Swishy's rec: The Decemberists~The Crane Wife. This album manages to deftly maneuver between artsy-indie-singer -songwriter and artsy-indie-rock with some serious multi-instrumentalism. First listen was "quirky" while subsequent spins have proven interesting on a little deeper level. I like how they have managed to retain an identity through slight genre twists with stylistic nuance. Solid rec.

    Cheers

congrats with the new place, and probably the job too...

during this storm (which is the first time ever I saw such a hard storm here) I played this:

Stevie wonder - Masterblaster (jammin) on a 12" single
and Johnny Guitar Watson - Love Jones, also on wax,

it did cheer me up (I don't like storms too much, at least, not here)
but then the lights were 'flickering' for a second, and I put my system off, just for safety reasons,
    putting it on again now...

    Keep them spinning,
    Bert.

The Books: The Lemon of Pink

If you think a laid back, meandering electro-acoustic sound collage sounds like a good thing. Grab this or the same band's Thought for Food. Lost and Safe's good too, but is somewhat closer to actual songs and has vocals by the band rather than sound samples of other people.

    thank you sirs,

I got almost 500 lbs of music to be shipped via FedEx. Turns out FedEx is cheaper than UPS. I need to search for USPS, but dont feel like waiting in line with that many stuff. Now I gotta start packing my audio gears........then clothe. Good thing I'm not taking my sub. Fortunately my TV broke awhile back, but where is my package from Music Direct!?! I do have one album sitting out though...

    Stevie Wonder - Innervision (CD)

Got some good friends to say goodbye to, but I'm certain that I'll see them again. Talk to you guys next month.

    Regards,

almost a year after the thread began I finally venture into it. I skipped a lot.

    NP:

    Album: KiF
    Artist: David Fiuczynski, Rufus Cappadocia
    Track: Prayer for my Father

The album is middle-eastern inspired punk/funk/fusion/metal/jazz I suppose. The track is a meditative and mellow reflection.

Finally receieved my package from MD...

    Listening to

John Legend - Get Lifted SACD hybrid

on the track #7, there is......yes there is. I can't believe I own a CD with Snoop De O dubo Gee. It should've been Cee-Lo...

I love this album. Not something I would've listened to 5 years ago. It's always nice to hear Lauryn.

    Nothing...

...at the moment, but I did stumble on Bill Evans' Portrait In Jazz while at Barnes & Noble ...Recorded in '59 after his work with Miles Davis on the Kind Of Blue sessions, it includes two takes of their earlier writing collaboration of Blue In Green...

It's a trio scenario and the interplay between Evans on piano and bassist Scott La Faro is really, really...what can I say?...cool...The stand-up bass sounds extraordinary to these ears...Drummer Paul Motian's brushwork is just what the doctor ordered, some nice tasty stuff, striking a nice balance with the two other players...

The majority of the program is of older (even using 1959 as a touchstone) classic ballads and such, Come Rain Or Come Shine...Autumn Leaves, that sort of thing from the likes of Cole Porter, Johhny Mercer, Rogers & Hart...Recognizing the titles, a familiarity with the melodies and curious as to how they might be reworked prompted the purchase. The little audio snippets at B&Ns listening stations were a positive indication...

Haven't had the opportunity to listen to it on my main rig, as I'm still doing some R&D modding of a pair of $6 Sony phones for a synergistic coupling with my port CDP...perhaps this weekend.

jimHJJ(...if you like KOB and jazz of that period, I highly recommend it...)

    Dusted: When We Were Young
If you like laid back electronic stuff, this is a good listen. It's from some of the people in Faithless. It's a mix of moody electronica, house and ambient music...kinda thematic. Been listening to it on and off for a few days now.
