Good day one and all. Just received this in the mail:

"Garry Mulligan meets Ben Webster"

A speakers corner re-release from a 1959 session. Not my usual, but have to broaden the musical horizons and such. Two top class saxophone players and the classic west coast rythmn section of Jimmy Rowles on Piano, Mel Lewis on drums and Leroy Vinegar on bass.

All on 180 gr. virgin Vinyl. The house is swinging.

I went to Border and acquired 3 shiny discs. They got some great stuff there without the Virgin price

DSOTM and Coral by David Sanchez on SACD.

I was expecting DSOTM on SACD to be spectacular. It was great. THe best area I could compare to my 30th Anniversary LP to this 30th Anniversay on SACD is track 3 and the first 2:30 minutes of track 4. With my TT setup, soundstage is much wider, but that famous bell on the beginning of the track "Time" was something I can't achieve on LP.
I think what I need to do with this format is to find new recordings. I dont see the point of acquiring old recordings since vinyl is great for that.

Coral by David Sanchez was really cool. I loved the style. He plays with other members with Prague Philharmonic Orchestra behind him. Kinda like what I've always wanted Herbie Mann to sound like. I guess background could;ve been quieter, but not too worried about it.

Hey Bobby, have you been interested in The Downward Spiral by NIN? I think that's what I need to get tomorrow. SACD suits his music well I imagine. Knowing Trent's style, I bet it would sound great in your ML MC setup.

But this is what I was most excited about today. I was looking for that Miles Davis you recommneded. I still havent been able to find one around here, but saw this in his section.

The Miles Davis Quintet, The Legendary Prestige Quinted Sessions... SAMPLER!!!!!!! For $0.02!!!!!!!!!! They had about 10 of them, and thought about grabbing them all for $0.20 and be done with my Christmas shopping.
This has 4 tracks with Coltrane, Garland, Chamber, and Philly Joe Jones. Just dont expect the last track Walkin(previously unreleased) to be great. Almost as bad as the Disc 6 of the Miles and Coltranes Complete Columbia Recordings '59-'61.

Hey Bernd, it's nice to see you listening to some older Jazz. Ben Webster on LP has been on the top of my list, but keeps slipping away.

re-released on Columbia Records. A double lp on 180 gr. Virgin Vinyl. I dig it very much.

The Downward Spiral is a great multi-channel effort. Like DSOTM, it can get away with stupidcrazy mc stuff because of what it is. IMO with virtually no organic instruments and instrumentation it seems natural went Trent indulges his warped engineer side. There is a lot of surround info and, interestingly to me anyway, over half the guitar tracks are MIDI originated. Most of those chords are impossible to actually play. The man's a sadist.

I cannot stand U2, but I've listened to NIN The Downward Spiral on SACD. I would love to hear this in MC mix. I was absolutely astonished by this. Will be pickin up In the Flesh, and a couple of CAN next time. Kinda staying away from Jazz lately. Just a little detour....

Watching the Ramones documentary last night and hearing 'em play a bit of Television when they talked about CBGBs got me to pull this one out. This is one I didn't appreciate until the last few years. I'd only heard bits and pieces over teh years and kinda just ignored them, prefering harder sounds when I went down that path. Big mistake. Fantastic guitar record. I've got the 4Men vinyl reissue and it's really well done.

The Fragile is a great album, but TDS was more of my thing at the time I was into them in HSchool. So, I kinda have a bit of emotional attachmentz to'em. With Teeth? ahh.... I think Trent's music is aging well. That's all I'm gonna say.
If you have a SACD player, I strongly suggest you get TDS on SACD. Problem is that I dont feel like spinning anything else after that. It's hard to follow with anything after that. Maybe some old mono LP of Billy Holiday.

So I was fixing to sell 4 records of Neil Diamond here on the Marketplace.

They all look mint, but I figured I need to play'em before I try to sell it to someone with a bad musical taste.
So I cleaned, prepared and all dat Jazz. Well, I went straight into the last track on side 1(w/ success) for that MEGA HIT "Sweet Caroline".
WOOOooooaaaaaaaaaaaaaa.
Neil is Ripping it like the lover he is.

Man-o-man. I doubt I'll ever play it again, but I'm just saying that I enjoyed it a bit more than I would've ever thought I would...

well i'm playing something rather unconvenient, i'm playing a OST from a game (hitman blood money), the soundtrack was made by Jesper Kyd (which was unknown before hitman) and i must say that i am impressed, really, in the game the music was good, but when played alone (without the game) it's quite a good job, it does what it is supposed to do, it makes you 'feel' the world of hitman, it's so threatening, and really ice cold.
i'd say he did a good job.

Original recorded in 2001, but has now been remastered by Kind of Blue. It comes with a DVD of the recording sessions. It's a fantastic quality recording.

Last night I enjoyed Charlie Hunter/Leon Parker - Duo. I never cared too much for his style, but especially this one song "You Dont Know What Love Is" really sucked me in.

Now spinning vinyl after I brought back in old ugly TT desk. Made all the difference in the world, and I couldnt be happier.

Nina Simone and Piano. again....

Older recordings sound great on vinly, that's nothing new. But this one, I still can't believe the quality of this wax. It's definetly worth $30 I paid for. I'm really enjoying it. I honestly can't remember last time I enjoyed anything like this. I think my Denon cart helps alot cuz it's not breaking up her piano.
