    Bought some records this morning.

    Hank Mobley Sextet - Hank
Leon Thomas - Gold Sunrise on Magic Mountain.
    Freddie Hubbard - Open Sesame
Grant Green - Green Street HQ-180
John Coltrane – Lush Life (giving him another try)

I think I found another Blue Note repress I like. They are labled Blue Note Records 304 Park Ave. At all costs stay away from United Artist, Capital(80s), Manhattan (the worst), EMI, and French reissues. You can’t go wrong with Liberty, 90’s Japanese pressings, Connoissuer, or mid 90’s Capital reissues.

I just got done listening to Coltrane's Lush Life.
I must say that was the most enjoyable album I've heard in a long time. To me that's saying alot, since I never cared for Coltrane. I can't wait to spinning it again next week. Wow!!!

Django Reinhardt - Classics and Rarities

actually not really my style, but i thought i'd give it a try, he plays the guitar, nothing special about that, only one thing is that he lost 2 fingers on one hand, and still plays better than alot of other people i've heard, all the tracks were made between 1937 and 1952, quality isn't too good, but still, reasonable...

Dexy's Midnight Runners were horribly maligned as one-hit wonders, but this whole album is an excellent fusion of celtic folk music and distinctive British style soul music. Great Hammond organ and horns throughout. You could take the big hit off this album and there'd still be plenty of resason to listen. Searching for the Young Soul Rebels is a great album by them as well.

    My favorite classical composer.
    Francis Poulenc

Piano Works, Pascal Roge. on a Compact Disc

I've played the last piece Toccata on Toris pieces. That was probably the funest composition I've ever played. I should've played the first 2, but was never interested. Man, my fingures just can't move like that anymore.....

Also played Sonata for Clainet and Piano, Sonata for Oboe and Piano, and Aubade, Chroreographic Pem for Piano & 18 instruments on LP

easing into Saturday morning with Brightblack Morning Light - S/T. I think it was nobody who mentioned this one. The vinyl version is a nice double album package that supposed to contain an extra track. It also comes with a pair of 3D glasses that I assume you're supposed to use to look at the album cover and artwork, but I can't get them to work. Anyhow, I just got it and I'm listening to sides a and b for the second time. These guys lay down some laid back grooves with electric piano, simple guitar with a little wah, bass, drums, some extra "out there" sounds and horns thrown in for good measure.

Nice find NB. I've also been impressed with the quality of Matador's vinyl of late.

If you like My Bloody Valentine, Serena-Maneesh is probably gonna rank high with you. Fuzzy, distorted, swirls of guitars with some proposulsive rythms beneath. Gets a bit heavier at times, but always stays floating and has plenty of moments of light.

Glad someone else is diggin' that Brightblack Morning Light. I was in a hurry and where I grabbed it, they only had the CD...maybe shouldda waited for the vinyl.

IMO one of Coltrane's better outings, and a radical departure from much of his other more esoteric work. Was this on SACD or vinyl?

The morning starts with a disc that not only isn't highly recommended, it isn't recommended at all. Paavo Jarvi/Die Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie~Stravinsky is yet another disappointment. Jarvi is starting to remind of Mike Keenan in that he rarely brings out the best in anyone around him. Disappointing in both performance and sound quality--caveat emptor

I think that's the main reason why people love his music. They just respect that "esoteric" style.

I got it on vinyl as usual. But since I love it so much I kinda want to get it in SACD for a different enjoyment.

I've been meaning to get a copy of Jazz at the Pawnshop, but they are so pricy. The biggest problem that I'm facing now is that I can't decide if I want to get the same title on wax or the shiny disc.
So far, I'm a big believer in SACD. They have their limitation in my preference, but vinyl isnt perfect either.

NS - Gato Barbieri - Caliente!

Not something I would spend my money on, but it was free......hey Eric Gale is on here. Still sucks.

BTW, I think we all appreiciate your honest feedback on Paavo Jarvi.
    Thanks,

Yeah, every medium has it's shortcomings. I have also been able to overcome those on SACD and appreciate it very much. With a few hundred titles in the collection one is bound to find a dud or three. If you have any questions about specific titles fire away and I'll give input if I can. Many others around here can give voice to experience as well.

As for this moment in time, there are few better ways to prepare for the madness of the workweek than with some hot java and John Coltrane's Blue Train...

    Great day to all.
