Most "audiophiles" spend a lot of money and a lot of time listening to the Telarc, ,Chesky, and similar labels. Since I don't I'm assuming these catalogs are comprised mainly of Classical, popular vocal, and Jazz so that's my response. While I can't imagine myself ever spending a great deal of time with recordings from any of these labels I wouldn't say that I consider them pretentious although I may have in the past. My original impressions were based entirely on my notion of 'how could anybody actually like this stuff". Live and learn I suppose.
