I have been enjoying Frank Zappa Guitar.

Also been listening to Pandora internet radio. You pick a song or group and it creates a station with all similar tunes/artists. You tell it if you like or dislike what they pick and eventually it plays all what you like. You can configure up to 100 personal stations.

The Tuesday thread isn't the only thing dead here.

My listening pleasure has been pretty much more of the same this week, I'm afraid. But I did do something interesting (and off-topic) this week that I'd like to share.

After putting up with the hassles of vision-correction for over 30 years, I finally got my eyeballs lasered on Friday. It was fast and relatively painless (after the first 5 hours or so), and now I can see 20/20 without contacts or glasses.

Sorry to jack the thread, but I'm pretty torqued up over this. Carry on.

Got my mitts on a Creatures bootleg that freaking rules. Occasionally I take a break and spin a Siouxsie bootleg. Got a DVD of an 81 German performance that should be ready to view any day now so I'm looking forward to that.

On the non-bootleg side I did go out today and grab Action Action which holds a bit of promise. Very much a poppier version of the Faint so buyer beware. I think I'll enjoy it but 'tis too soon to tell.

Also grabbed that She Wants Revenge disc that Jar mentioned the other day. Just had time to give it a skip button aided glance so far. I dunno, makes no effort to update anything as far as I can tell, which isn't all that far. The jury isn't out, it hasn't even been seated yet.

That's about it. Still jacking around with a lot of gear issues. Just got my MX 700 remote control. The 76 page manual was a bit daunting but I'm making progress. In the end this better make my life easier or I'm going to be royally pissed. Today I also added 25 lbs of lead shot to the speakers as the manual suggests. Actually it made a surprising difference in terms of bass impact, and they weren't especially shabby in that area before.

Anyway, need to do some room treatments to improve acoustics and then I can begin the hunt for the first killer album of 2006 in earnest.

Caravan & The New Symphonia - the band didles with a symphony back in 1973.

Proto-Kaw - Before Became After. I don't know, this got raving reviews but I must be missing something. I'll have to listen some more. It just doesn't have the musical hooks that Kansas had. It is heavier though than I expected it to be.

David Myers Plays Genesis. Myers was the keyboard player in The Musical Box from their start until 2004. Here he plays a number of older Genesis tunes on the grand piano.

I also downloaded most of Tapes 'n Tapes The Loon a couple of days ago. Funny that Pitchfork reviewed it today. Only a couple of spins so far but I'll probably end up buying this one. I'll need to make a CD-RW copy to listen to on the way to work to know for sure first.

I was going to tell you to "do the math genius", but after looking at the list and since I didn't post until after 3:00pm, I guess that it could be possible that I did listen to all those disks today....if I didn't sleep. But since we share genetic sleeping habits..."do the math genius!".

And you should be torqued up! Congratulations Mr M. I can only imagine how great it must feel to wake up in the morning, open your eyes, and be able to see clearly. I too have been wearing glasses full-time for 30 years. I would give up my entire CD collection and all future purchases to have unassisted 20/20 vision. But I'm not a good candidate for long-term success with this surgery. You, however, enjoy your new eyes!!

It took me months of bidding on e-bay and bartering on Amazon to finally land them. Both are used by in perfect condition...well, close to perfect anyway. We watched the first on Saturday and will see the other this weekend. They are actually Parts 1 and 2 of the same story if you're familiar with them. Great stuff!

I actually figured out the "big surprise" at the end of Manon of Spring, but I'm probably not the first one. They're two great movies though, even if the ending was a bit predictable. They just don't make 'em like that any more.

Cat Power - The Greatest, this is really really good, I was a mild fan but now I'm converted.

Bonnie Prince Billy - The Brave and The Bold, lots of cover versions that are a bit of a yawn so far but it's early days yet I suppose, maybe I wasn't in the mood.

Artic Monkeys - Whatever People Say I Am, pretty much what I expected and it's ok, the vocalist has a great style.
