As a matter of fact, we cant move on from this because there are still folks like G Michael who understand and appreciate the importance of this subject.
Man, your like a broken record. You asked questions that have no absolute answer and then barrade the people who try and explain this to you.

Do flagship receivers put ouu their advertised power? NO. I know of no A/V that actually puts out the power they claim. However, the flagships have much better power sources and are probably rated closer to reality than lower end models.
Will they outpeform or perform as well as seperates in the same general price range? In what areas? Video, Audio, Switchability, Convenience, what? Chances are you will not hear much if any of an improvement in perceived sound. Now with very high end hard to drive speakers, maybe seperates will be able to dirve them better thus giving "better" sound.

As for your main question about whether seperates are worth it? AGAIN and for the last time, only you can make this determination. There are pro's and con's to each. Depending on what you want (which you have yet to tell us) they may or may not make sense for you.

IMHO, if I were you and thank god I am not, I would upgrade my speakers and especially my sub. Maybe even do some room acoustic room treatments. These three things will give you far far far better improvements than just upgrading your receiver. Spend money wisely and not just on seperates because they "seem" better and more high end.

Right. No answer. That's correct. And I assume we can't DISCUSS issues in here for the sake of discussing them, right? If this is bothering you so much, why dont you just stay OUT of the conversation? I dont get it.

"Do flagship receivers put ouu their advertised power? NO. I know of no A/V that actually puts out the power they claim."

Okay. So they're not REALLY putting out 170 watts per channel.

"However, the flagships have much better power sources and are probably rated closer to reality than lower end models."

Okay; but how much closer; is there any way of telling?

"Will they outpeform or perform as well as seperates in the same general price range? In what areas? Video, Audio, Switchability, Convenience, what? Chances are you will not hear much if any of an improvement in perceived sound."

    THATS what I was wondering.

"if I were you and thank god I am not"

Oh boy is this feeling mutual-----OH BOY do I mean that, too. THANK GOD I don't have the personality inside me that you possess --- just mean, rotten, sarcastic, bordering on evil characteristics that make everyday people simply suck. You're a perfect example of that.

Yes, I am so mean, rotten, sarcatic and full of eveil characteristics that I tried to honestly answer your question even though you have asked it many times before. How dare I! But, you are right, why bother? You seem to intent on not hearing advise so I will leave you alone.

BTW, looks like GMichael seems to agree with some of my asnwers. Maybe that should tell you something?

Again, upgrade your speakers and sub. This will be the biggest improvement you can make right now. I am not saying your speakers are bad (that would be mean and rotten), I am just saying that's the best way to improve performance in your system. You are always taking issue with lack of LFE in a lot of movies. Ever think about getting a better sub? For less than $500, you can substantially upgrade your sub to something like a HSU, SVS, or others. Your Polk just is not in the same class as these subs. Hell, my subs are not in the same class as these subs. See, I am being rotten to myself.

So there is it, my advise. Take it or leave it. I don't care.

I agree. I upgraded my entire system and started with my avr. Going from JVC to Denon , of course I heard a difference in sound. But the real day and night difference came when I upgraded my speakers and sub about 2 months ago. Huge difference in SQ. I wish I would have upgraded my speakers a long time ago.

Yes, sir. If the issue here is to upgrade, I totally agree with first changing speakers. Starting with Center. Subwoofer is a must. Separates are for people who have refined ears, having (too/very) much concerns with details/soundstage/....

In my experience, I found that it very much depends on people you are socializing with, whether they are using receivers or separates.
