Goodwin showed up in the jungle pretty quickly after the crash. But when exactly did Ethan appear? The Fusies were on the island for quite a while before Hurley took his little census. So maybe the tail crashed near Othersville, but the fuselage was a couple of days hike.

My theory is that the magnet in the Swan station was emitting some sort of shield that hid the island from radar and satellites. It was in place to protect the location of the experiments from being discovered. Once Locke let the clock countdown, something happened to the shield so that the guys in the Antarctic station finally saw the location, hence their call to Ms. Widmore with the message "we found it".
