    Movie(s) that moved you?

Which movie or movies really moved you? Which movie scared the hell out of you or got you close to tears? Which movie had you ready to jump outta your seat or had you screaming at the TV? Which movie had you bitting your nails or leaping for joy?

About the last 10 minutes of "The Last Samuri" gets me a little choked up, especially when they're shooting at Tom Cruise and the Samuri and everybody bows.

When Tom Cruise talks to the Emperor at the end is the part that gets me.

    Cool topic LJ

Platoon left me completely and utterly drained, physically and emotionally.

Saving Private Ryan wrecks me when an elder Ryan is standing in the cemetary and is asking his wife to tell me that him that he is "a good man." IOW, he "earned this" as Tom Hanks told him to. An amazing moment.

Exorcist just flat scares the bejeezus out of me. The Changling too.

Sports movies like Rudy, Rocky II, or even Remember the Titans are always great for an emotional lift. On the flip side, there are others that can be real tear jerkers (in a sappy sorta way) such as Brian's Song or Something for Joey that I still really enjoyed.

Das Boot is one of the most intense movies I've seen.

There are plenty more, but I'm too tired right now.

I've asked this from time to time.... good thread.

There are lots of movies that move me.

    1. "They Were Expendable" - The dark early days of WWII. They're out numbered, surrounded and know they're finished. Being asked to walk away from men you served with knowing that they haven't a rats chance... Hard to watch.

    2. "It's a Wonderful Life" - Corny I know but that ending when they all rally round George Bailey.... ah America as I wished it truly was.

    3. "Glory" - Freedom cannot be "given" it must be earned, with blood. They sat around that fire that night knowing that they were dead men but they went singing cause they new for their children to be free, it had to be done.

    4. "Spartacus" - See above.

    5. "The Seven Samurai" - The last battle, the battle in the rain Mifune's rage at the gods, his enemies, the unfairness of it all. What cinema.

Just 5 off the top of my head...

    Much love folks...

Jaws did something awful to me as a child. I would not go into the water after I saw this movie. I'm not joking either. My parents(being the lovely people they are) would literally drag me into the water, when we went to the beach.

Dances with Wolves was another that touched.

I still have scars from that movie when "Betsy" (my date) clamped her nails into my leg! It's ironic too because the scars look like a shark bite...

To this day it is tradition that when we go shark fishing we have to watch Jaws the night before.

As scary as the movie was (and still is!), for me one of the best scenes is Quint's monolog about the wreck of the Indianapolis. I think it's one of the most riviting eloquations in all of movie history.

    Excorcist

I was a good catholic 19 year old. My brother was in the seminary. We went to see the Excorcist. He could tell I was affected by it so he made it worse and told me all kinds of crap about how excorcism is common practice and the devil is doin a number on all of us. His way of messin with me. Still a scary movie today.

I forgot to add Amistad to my list. This movie had me close to tears. My wife refuses to watch and I understand completely.

Was watching Karate Kid recently, and must admit the last scene did choke me up a bit. Pat Morita is just terrific in this movie (the Kid wasn’t too bad either ).

what's awesome too, even though the other two movies just couldnt quite capture the lightning in a bottle as the first one, are the posters!
i love how in this one they are standing face-to-face, in the second one they are both facing in the same direction, and in the third one, while they are both facing in the same direction, machio's head is turned away so they arent "looking" in the same direction! classic!!!!

OK, now that I'm actually awake, I can't believe I forgot to put Cinderella Man on my list. This movie truly puts things in perspective.

Based on Pat Morita's expressions, I'd say it goes something like this:

KKI: Hmmm, good script...I think we could have something here

KKII: Awright...I'll do a sequel. What the hey, it's a paid vacation to Japan.

KKIII: How did they talk me into this?!?

in the first one, daniel-san was a whiny little punk who he was teaching for the first time, who he was seeing eye-to-eye and helping grow from a whiny little punk to...

the second one, where he was a whiny little jerk, and they both were facing the same obstacle as a rival suitor for the same love and they were both growing further along, especially daniel-san who grew from a whiny little jerk to...

the third movie, where he was a whiny little jackass, and began to break away (face away) from the incredible teachings of sweet miyagi-san.

Saving Private Ryan - (beach landing) no teacher, book or class can explain D-day like this scene, i was speechless when i seen it for the first time.

Casino - (bludgeoning in the corn field) still scares the hell out of me.

Shawshank Redemption - (entire movie) i never get sick of this movie.

Wow I agree with you on three.

The Shawshank Redemption was on TV three times recently and I saw a part of it then saw it the other two times. I also saw it 3 times in the theater and a pile of times since. Just never tire of the Andy Dufraine and Red story. IMO it's one of the true greats. My third best film of the 1990's (but more re watchable than the other two I have ahead of it due to their subject matter.

Shawshank seems to get played on the superstation quite a bit, and i can always seem to make time to watch it. I never get tired of seeing warden norton and captain hadley get theirs in the end!

(March of the Penguins was also well worth the rental fee)
