What's vintage in your system?

Im trying to get a system done in my den for my 33's .. So far i have a old amp from a magnavox stereo console. A dual turn table ,, A pair of dynaco speakers ..(witch do kick some but )I have a system in my living room witch i built form North creek ,, The dynco were build in 68,,, The north creek i just built have the same brand of drivers in there box. seas and scan speak.. The north creek i have are one of the best speakers i ever had .. So if they sounded good in 68 when dynco used them.. they make them even better in 2004 when i made the kit .. If you have the know how to do it your self DO IT ,, But as for the vintage stuff ,,, Man what sound...

let's see...recently I picked up a marantz 4230 receiver from Stealitback.com, actually all in one piece and functioning(though faceplate beat up--anybody with a faceplate to offer?), and then a pair of Celestion 3's, a non working NAD 7225Pe receiver, a working NAD CD player of same vintage, and most modern of all, a Luxman CD player whose number I can't recall.

In my earlier adulthood I had at various times; the old Advents, god knows their name, but heavy and solid as oxen; a beautiful Dual turntable, top of the line manual with rosewood?teak? finish; and in college, an old Yamaha receiver that had those funky rectangular knobs and god knows why that left the roost.

I suppose my Dynaco MK3's would qualify as vintage if they weren't so modified. Only the transformers and output tubes are the same. I'm still using 6550's although they are not the original tubes.

The Denon is still going strong and sounds great. The Apt Holman is still in use as a phono stage only; the Realistic is also still in use; (shows how much I care about vinyl).

The B&W are still around and occassionally in use, though not in my main system; (incidentally, they totally suck today -- absolutely no dynamic capability -- I can't believe they haven't deteriorated from when I bought they way back when).

I still use and enjoy my Sony EL 7 Elcaset deck. I have a Technics SL1000 MK Turntable. I think my amp and pre are getting to be vintage. Denon POA 2200 amp and a Denon PRA 1100 pre amp.

Still sounds fantastic to this day. Of course the Arcam CD 73 is a big help here.

My bedroom system is semi-vintage: Amber pre amp, Hafler amp, Pioneer 6500 II tuner
(looking for a good tuner), Pioneer laserdisk/CD, matched with a pair of Tannoy MX 2
speakers. My old McIntosh amp from the 70's is still driving my mains in my HT system.

Pioneer Spec 1pre-amp;Spec 4 power amp; TX 8500 II tuner; RT 707 reel to reel. All rack mounted.

My Wharfedale Vanguards are updated versions of the E70. The Vanguard is a three way and has just one midrange driver (a better one) and more bandwidth 40hz-23khz. But the E series and the Vanguards are wonderful rockers and fast and LOUD.

I have the Pioneer DSS-9 speakers with the "graphite modulus" 12" woofer and 5" "graphite modulus" squakers and ribbon tweeters. They were very exceptional for their price in 1987. I Also have AR-3as (1972) for surround and Infinity RSbs (1981) for rear, and a Ramsa WR8210 (1984) mixer for fun.

I'm very sorry I lost my Dynaco MkIIIs.

It's all hooked up to a Pioneer Elite VSX-59TXi receiver (current flagship model) with an Infinity Beta C360 center channel, and a pair of Rythmik Audio DirectServo subs and it all rocks seriously!

I have a Pioneer 3000 X/YA Reciver, a Pioneer Turntable and a pair of Pioneer Semi-Floorstanding Speakers all handed down from my parents. They bought this stuff in about 1980 so i guess it could be described as vintage. All sounds great and goes well with DVD player and bookshelf speakers (which are used a rears).

Im considering some kinda multi channel amp now.

BTW those mids in me ole mains are apparently actually some boron composite.

I'm pretty green in the current hifi market, but i was in it 35 years ago, and ever since i been doin pro audio, including soundesign and mixing for numerous projects; hell we all gotta make a living, it's all i've known most o my life :rolleyes:

BTW this list below is my little system at home, not what I use day to day professionally, and if'n yas gotta ask, my daily stuff is generally very current pro stuff, and changes from day to day according to the gig, but it's my job to insure that it always makes a great noise, whether it be a fiber feed or something from a very hi-q local source. Kinda like flyin a hellicopter via an assistant mefinks sometimes :D

It never ceases to amaze me, how much vintage stuff is out there.

I have replaced the DQ-10s' with Teledyne AR-9s recently. I'm happy as a clam. Which are pretty happy creatures, or so I've been told.

I have a pair of Altec Lansing 887A CAPRI speakers that were made in 1974. I bought them for 5 bucks at a swapmeet, and they work perfect! The surrounds aren't rotted or anything. This is my only piece of vintage gear, but if I see anymore deals like this Ill pick up more. I don't know if a 17-year old turntable qualifies as vintage. My Denon DP-59L still looks and performs as good as when I first bought it in 1988.

i don't know if these speakers are qualified as vitage, so i'd thought i'd ask all you guys. And i know that most of you guys are not fond to Sony products, but for the money i paid for them i can't complain. Besides this is just my temporary budget setup.

Can anyone tell me any thing about these speakers. I googled them but i really didn't find any info or reviews. If anyone knows info on these model speakers please let me know:

Actually, until Nov last year, it all was 1980 vintage. I still have and use a Harksound turntable, Harman Kardon cassette deck, and a Hi-Fi JVC VCR which (touch wood) are still functioning fine. Unlike a heap of laser driven products (CD & DVD) which have already died on me! Why is it that middle of the range stuff which is 25 years old has given lots of service and still going strong, but newer technology has already been replaced several times?

Until recently I also occassionaly used a 1963 HMV valve radiogram to play 78s. Anybody remember 78s? I inherited some, but they were too cumbersome and noisy to use so I donated them to a record museum.

I almost forgot, I also own an NAD 3020 circa 1982--The original.

My old vintage system consists of Infinity QLS, Sansui CA 3000 preamp ,BA 3000 and 2-BA 5000 amps,Sansui TU 9900 tuner Dual 1009 TT, Sony 730 RR ,system is active tri-amped. using 2-Crown VFX-2 electronic crossovers.

I have grandmas HMV 8+8 twin channel record player, and I have 2 pairs of technics speakers
The older pair i think is the closed enclosure, as the label says National Technics and the speakers are made in japan. They consist of a dome tweeter and horn midrange and 10inch woofer. I replaced the tweeters and woofers. The speaker cabinet is almost box like 44cm wide, 42cm deep and 69cm high.

The taller technics around 3ft (92cm) are 3 way with a 12inch woofer.

My equipment is all pretty old due to never seeming to have the money to upgrade, I've had my Technics RS-TR265 tape player from new in 1988. My CD player was purchased second-hand about six years ago, a Technics SLP 310 (badly needs replacing, poor quality) and my only amp I've had for well over a decade since new is a very modest and not very good Technics SU-V500 and my deck is very ancient a Dual 505-2, excellent but in need of a new stylus. However, I bought a pair of vintage Celestion Ditton 66 Studio Monitors from the 1970s on Ebay last December and whatever I play on this system sounds brilliant!! (I am currently posting in speakers re a fault on these but they still sound beautiful despite the fault). These speakers have pulled this whole system together in a way you would not think possible, even worn out old tapes sound brilliant. I highly recommend these speakers - they usually retail about £600-£700, I managed to get mine for £200 as they look a bit tatty but I've been told that to get similar quality speakers on today's market I would have to expect to pay £5000! I understand the smaller Celestion Ditton 44s are quite good too for their size. :)
