What's vintage in your system?

I just recently dragged my old stuff out and got eveything working as it should.

My Conrad Johnson Sonographe amp is probably the oldest of everything, and it works very well. The amp will probably be next on the list to get replaced unless I get a tube Preamp first.
Just the other day on Audiogn I missed a matching solid state Sonographe Preamp for a couple hundred bucks.....they would have looked very nice together.

Long before Lansing.

In 1937 Altec acquired the domestic theatre sound service and maintenance business of Electrical Research Products, Inc., the Western Electric subsidiary. Altec Lansing was formed in 1941 when Lansing Manufacturing Co., a nearly bankrupt west coast loudspeaker company, was purchased for $50,000 cash. Altec Lansing went to work for the Navy on magnetic airborne detection equipment. Much of the work in this period was done in association with GSI, the company from which Texas Instruments was to spring. At war's end, Altec Lansing continued its steady growth pattern and led the way to large scale development of public address systems and to a conscientiousness of acoustics that had never existed before. :rolleyes:

Recently modified my system. Was running 4 BOSE 501 series II's (from 1973, back when BOSE stuff was decent) and a pair of Bang & Olufsen Pentas (1988). Used a Yamaha control amp for the self powered Pentas. Had a Sansui 7000 4-channel receiver (circa 1977) for the 4 BOSE's. Ran the Pentas for front channel L/R, had 2 Bose's for front L/R, but placed them on the sides. Had 2 BOSE's for back surround L/R. The sound was impressively good, but the 1970's sound around technology is nothing like today's stuff.

Went out and bought an AR HC6 home theater speaker system (4 sats, center, and powered sub $329)) and a Yamaha rxv 2500 a/v receiver ($750). After lengthly experimentation, I ended up with:
Penta's for front L/R, running of their own amps, with volume control by the Yamaha.
2 BOSE's as front L/R placed outside and slighty behind the Penta's. Had to put 4 ohm resistors in line since the BOSE's are 4 ohm. Feared the worst, but didn't notice any audible sound deterioration.
the AR sats as side surround and rear surrounds, plus the center and subwoofer.

Basically it's a 7.1 sound system using 9 amps/ 9 speakers/ and a powered sub.

End Result: No comparison for movies/video with the old setup. Very impressive improvement.

For music I don't think I lost anything in the transition. I thought the Yamaha 2500 was quite flexible in allowing me to blend 4 large front speakers with 5 cube speakers. Still a big mishmash, but what the heck.

i have a marantz 2220B and it works fine except the blue illuminated lights on the tuner dial dont work and i think another one that is run on the same fuse as the tuner ligthts dont work either the pointer light works. i am wondering if i need to take it apart and i need to know if there is fuses on the inside of the amp behind the tuner dial internally?

can someone tell me if i need to open this thing up and change internal fuses for the illuminated lights to work again?

I have a Pioneer 727 bought new in 1972
a Pioneer 626 plus some vintage Pioneer speakers obtianed in a thrift shop for $50 in 1993.

Dynaco FM 5 all bought on Ebay recently; I built a Dynaco FM 3 tuner in 1965 and really liked that equipment.
I still have a pioneer FM/8-track unit in my 1971 Skylark Custom convertible and a Radio Shack 8-track recorder player!
I do have a new digital Denon Home Theater Receiver with surround sound but it is so complicated to use that I really appreciate the older simple units.

Newbie first post, but thought I would get my feet wet with this thread. My vintage system:

McIntosh MC40 tube amps (60's)
Sansui 1000A tube reciever used as preamp (late 60's)
Thorens TD160 turntable (early 70's)
Technics SL1300 TT (late 70's)
Altec Lansing 604-8g Model 17's

I love vintage gear, it sounds great and the prices fit my budget.

I have 4 cartridges, with one being vintage.

Shure III w/ VN35E
Goldring 1042
Denon 110
At 440ML

The SHure is my least fav of the bunch. I had a NOS stylus and I think it might have dried up a bit.

I have only had my 40's for about 4 months or so, but I like them very much. They were the personal amps of a very good tech here in town, and he has already told me he regrets selling them. I told him anytime he misses them he is welcome to come over and listen to them sing. What more can a guy do?

My system is not very extensive. However, all of the main components are vintage. This would amount to two components. A Sansui AU-717 and a matching TU-717. Everything else is newer.

really does crank, if thats your thing!

my advents (which are also my current speakers), definatly, i also have a kenwood kr-730 receiver hidden in my closet somewhere, which was bought together with the advents,
my turntable is vintage too, a luxman pd-282.

the amp, cables and cd player/computer are new :)
