Hey, Stone: If you like the Ambient Music series by Eno, you might wanna check out this disc by Eno and Fripp. It's called Evening Star, and is a very clever mix of looped guitar and other electronics, sorta reminiscent (in my mist humble of opinion) of Eno's work with Roxy Music.
I remember reading some liner notes on one of the Eno albums once, where the composer remarked that his music should be played at the very threshold between just audible and loud enough to pay attention to if desired. Try this out and lemme know what you think....

Dead Heroes Club, A Time Of Shadows. I like this album, the band has a strong vocalist. I'm trying to think who he reminds me of. Peter Gabriel with a twist of Townsend perhaps?

I've been listening to this one a bunch lately. I'm really surprised I like it as much as I do because I tend to find electronic music less satisfying. This one is not dance or beat driven, which is a big plus for me. It somehow conjures an organic feel and keeps a mix of tension & dread and childlike wonder going. The vocals are kinda heavily accented, but it adds to the feel in a good way. I find it real engaging. I put a track on my 2009 Comp which you can hunt down, if you like.

Eric Clapton, Me & Mr Johnson
Just recently picked this up. I like it a lot. Give it a try if you like duh Blues. I also found it versatile so it keeps your interest and toe tapping.

Not sure how many free downloads I've accumulated through amazon. I never thought I'd use'em til yesterday when I was making a comp of "things I've heard on tv and at the movies". I saw the Larry Clark movie "Bully" several months ago and since then I've wanted to find the music at the end. As it turns out, it's two Fatboy Slim tracks Song for Shelter which slips into Talking 'Bout My Baby. Used the free downloads and now I can't get "under the big bright yellow sun" out of my head. It's weird because I haven't had an interest in this style of music in several years, but these are weird times.

Been on a Hawksley Workman kick lately. Any of you Yanks who haven't heard this band, check em out! Excellent songwriting done in a Bowie-esque way, without actually copying. Proof positive that Canada rocks!

For anyone upset with Santa, their government, employer, etc., consider the new Hatebreed. This self titled gem will grab you from track 1 and not let go til the ride is over. Really refreshing considering their last release was a predictable snooze IMO.
They got their fire back in a HUGE way. All the hooks and breakdowns you would expect, with some different sounding guitar work thrown in here and there. Alot of old school influence unabashedly coming through.

You know, I get their record label's (Six Shooter) newsletter so I always know what this band is up to and where they're touring, but I've actually never heard them. I really should check them out. Especially if they are "Bowie-esque".
My Space here I come!
P.S. You gotta love the record label's tag line..."Life is too short to listen to ****ty music". :biggrin5:
Oh, and now playing...Muse, Black Holes and Revelations.

Oh my!! This is a problem FA!! However I am happy to know that it's me who will be turning you onto HW. They just pulled through London a few months back and I caught the show. That was my 5th time seeing them and it was great. Fantastic performers.
Here's a link to something you might want to check out. You will need WINRAR to open it once it's on your comp, if you don't have it, check online for a free version. Delicious Wolves should be your first purchase and from there I would grab For Him and the Girls. I used the Bowie reference to describe their approach more than actual sound.

Consider this my gift to you...Happy Xmas!

I've been enjoying this group's work since a little over a month ago...Reminiscent of some of the sampling and dub work of Thievery Corp., Four Tet's comps are (to my ears) a bit fresher and more contemporary. Very well recorded, too, Dialog is a great fusion of traditional instruments, electronics and plenty of tintinbulation to get everybody up, snapping and dancing, in no time!

I took a trip up to see some relatives in northern MN this week, so a significant portion of my listening came via the tape deck. On my way out of town, I thrifted just enough cassettes to make it there and back. Most of these I have on other mediums but it was nice to get reacquainted with them:
Yo La Tengo - Fakebook
--"Barnaby, Hardly Working" and their cover of the Flamin' Groovies "You Tore Me Down" are about the most splendid things I know of right now.
Björk - Debut
--I had totally forgotten what a massive pop jam "Big Time Sensuality" is!
Tom Waits - Swordfishtrombones
--"Gonna whittle you inna kindling!"
Archie Shepp - Four For Trane
Champion Jack Dupree - Blues from the Gutter
Echo & the Bunnymen - s/t
The Feelies - Only Life
Creedence Clearwater Revival - Chronicle
Silvio Rodríguez - Cuba Classics 1/Canciónes Urgentes
Hammerhead - Into the Vortex
Prince Paul - A Prince Among Thieves
--the beats are aight but the "concept"/rapping suxxx
Edith Piaf - some budget compilation

Stevie Ray Vaughn & Albert King, Sessions. What a great album. Sound quality is great, recorded live in a studio. The bit of conversation between songs and a couple of Albert's stories makes the event the more special. The tasty keys of Tony Llorens is worth mentioning as well. I don't know if Llorens is King's regular but several of King's songs on another album I have includes tasty keys as well. I need to get more Albert King, I like him a lot and any one who likes Blues who don't have any better get up and run to the music store. This Sessions album is out of print and there weren't many available.
