If you feel like paying more than $30 for any LP is ridiculous then I think you know the answer. To me it's worth it, but I think older pressing is more dynamic than this $30 repress. Maybe it's all in my head, cuz this LP sounds smooooooth and cleeeeeeeean. Almos too stable, really.

Okkervil River~Black Sheep Boy

Residing some 45 minutes to the south of yours truly, Willi Scheff reminds me of Beck if he showered less and had less style but these guys be strummin' some angst filled indie. I like the samples, I like the lyrics, I like the lack of compressed guitars. One of th ebetter examples of the genre in 07.

after spinning it a couple of times, I think I should recommend stacy kent's new album to all the jazz people around here (and to those who like the quieter jazz), My audio dealer was right, she has a beautiful and very unique voice :)

Robert Plant - Shakin and Stirred. Although I'm not a huge fan of his solo work this is one for the quality recording in itself.

Mark Knopfler-Golden Heart. I'm surprised that his name is not brought up much. He certainly has a distinct guitar style.

Check out his "Wag the Dog" album, especially the title track. A little more bluesy and uptempo than Golden Heart.

A great recommendation by some of the characters here; such a smooth way to bring the evening to a close...

It Feels Good To Me by Bill Bruford with Annette Peacock. Compositionally, maybe the best I know of.

Hip Elegy by Joachim Kuln with outstanding performances by trumpeter Terumasa Hino and drummer Alphonse Mouzon.

I've always wondered about Tusk, if it was a good album. For a double album it didn't generate much radio play but that's definitely not a sign of anything. I don't generally buy albums unless I have some idea of what they sound like, so I just never picked that up. I had a chance to buy it on vinyl and probably should have, it may have been worth the money to cure my curiosity

esp. the second album imo. It has all the stuff you may like in the 'Mac' but basically a Lindsay Buckingham album as far as songwriting goes...and he can write. Plus it sounds really good and you can likely pick it up for a small handfull of bills.

N.P. Vic Chestnutt 'North Star Deserter' (released by Constellation on 180gm. vinyl...pretty nice sound for Vic)

Did you get it on wax? Not the greatest recording or music in the world, but I LOVE that album, but I'm a sucker for GG. With that in mind, I can't wait for the reissue of Idle Moment. I should get 2 copies.

I played Horance Silver's Songs for my Father, again. Maybe because I've had much time for music lately, but Joe Henderson made my head spin a couple of times, and made me scream out with joy!!

I also enjoyed: Roy Ayers - Red, Black, and Green. I was really suprised that I enjoyed this album as much as I did. This isnt HardBop, but I just couldnt ignore the great music.

Children of Bodom~Live in Stockholm loud, aggresive, metallic etching from Scandinavian Cookie Monsters with proggy keyboards and guitar wunderkind Alexi Laiho...violent, angst-filled music for violent, angst-filled times.

I spun the new Ann Wilson covers album. It's a pretty good album, she tends to do more of a layed back approach to the songs, many of them feature violin. There is a quality to the sound though I can't put my finger on. On some of the songs it sounds to me like her voice is louder in the mix than it should be and the overall feel doesn't fool me into believing everyone is there performing at the same time, maybe it's poor mixing. It's a shame because the instruments sound good and the background is very quiet. I hope some one else hears the album to see what they think.

Also, Count Basie live at the Sands in Vegas, 1966. This disc is in stereo and sounds good, unbelievably so for a live recording from 66. I'd recommend this album for anyone into Basie or wanting to hear a good album by him. I bought the Ken Burns comp of Basie and was disappointed. It may be alright for a historical picture but all of it is in mono and I couldn't get into it.
