    Tim Armstrong: A Poet's Life

I always liked Rancid OK. They were those cute little retro punks who loved the Clash. Well, I guess a reggae album coming outta the fold was inevitable. And, being that I was always a sucker for the Clash's reggae excursions, it's no surprise that I fully enjoy this record. Nice, dusty ska/reggae vibe throughout. An excellent record to play through the summertime.

At last some time for some tunes after some mad heavy work schedule.

"The House of Love - Days run Away". A return to form. One of my fav.from '05.

"Richard Swift - Drerssed up for the Letdown" Last years release. His Voice has a hint of Marc Bolan. Solid album.

"The Broken West - I can't go on I'll go on". This years release and a damn good one.

    Peace

    You and me both, Bernd.

I'm not even thinking about music on weekdays, but today is a different story.

Enjoyed quite a bit of tune today. On weekends, I like to play at least 12 hours of music to catch up. For that, I think I need to go with SS amp. My power tubes arent happy on weekends.

A great SACD I picked up in Japan. I should go ahead and pick up all the series and so should everyone on this site with SACDP.

    Stella by Starlight
    The Great Jazz Trio
    Hank Johns

    I highly recommend it.
    Have a great weekend, everyone.

    MIckey Hart - PLanet Drum

I thought this was a great CD to test out 1.6QR. They play with low enough, with all the quickness. But whatever the case, pretty nic tunes with decent rhythm.

For the uninitiated this is a pretty solid collection from the masters of body rock. The first disc amasses album versions and singles while disc two centers on remixes from notables William Orbit and Daniel Miller. Excuse me while I go break things...

I listened to Miles Davis' - Kind of blue (again) and suddenly I realized that it was a shame that this was the only full Miles Davis album I owned, so I bought 2 more.

    they are spinning now;

Miles Davis - Porgy and Bess
Miles Davis - birth of the cool

and while I was at it:

Finger pippin' with the Horace Silver Quintet.
    jazzanova - blue note trip

and I found a 1984 digital recording in dad's collection and I was stunned by how good it sounded, which amazes me, since I don't always like the digital stuff...
Concierto para une fiesta performed by Pepe Romero

    Keep them spinning,
    Bert.

I'm surprised to hear that you liked "Volta" Jayra, but then again, I'm surprised that you're listening to Bjork in the first place. Not my favorite of her work but to each his own.

It's been a hot minute since I've been back up that way but if you were looking for one of them smokey jazz bars, Club Mozambique 'aint it, at least it wasn't in the early part of our new century.

    bobsticks,

Yeah I know. I've never cared for Bjork much, but that was more than 10 years ago. I was at a CD store and it was buy three get one free. I was looking for a free album, and circled around the store at least 3 times... then I saw Bjork and remembered your posts. It's quite good, except for that one track.....

NP: AIR - Deck Safari v.1.

I enjoyed this album on the way back from Cincy to Lexie. But of course I was getting contact buzz by a friend. It was a great drive...
I never cared for Beastie Boys or Beck, but sounds great on this 2CD set. Frankie sounds great with a kick of Bosa Nova. Great stuff overall. I will be picking up the 2nd version of Deck Safari in a near future. Oh, and it's sounding great playing rightt now with clear conscious.

Have a great vacation, my man.

    Beastie Boys' The Mix~Up
Framed in Jazz Pictures at an Exhibition
Charlie Hunter Quartet's Songs From The Analog Playground

    better late than never, ay

It seems silly to jump in after all this time but I've recently picked up a few CD's. I wondered into a used CD store with nothing in mind. The store has listening stations set up. After doing some listening here's what happened.

I was interested in adding some Rickie Lee Jones to my collection, the store had 3 titles, I didn't care for 2 of them but did buy Traffic from Paradise. This is a good album with excellent sound quality.

They had several POD titles, including some still using Payable On Death. I have Satelite and was curious to see what their other stuff sounded like. The first CD I listened to I bought called Snuff The Punk. One other was maybe their first attempt at the rap thing and didn't have much to offer. But Snuff The Punk is a very good album and a total full throddle assault. All the guys shine on this album but the drummer and bass player are off the chart here. Or, should I have said off the chain?

I didn't have any Helmet and saw their Best of and picked that up. It was sealed, If I had listened I'm not sure I would have still walked out with it. They aren't very versatile.

I remember FA talking about Blue October when they first came out, I saw that album and gave it a spin. It may not be one of my favorites but there were enough good songs to prompt me to buy it. I thought my wife might like them too. I'm the only one that does.

    A supe4b week in music

Just got back from a great holiday that influenced my musical listenig:

Amy Winehouse's "Back to Black" -- man o man what a trip; it's been a while since an album from back to front grabbed me like this does; absolutely love it!! my summer album of 2007!! Even if it came out in 2006 -- I love being late to a party/////////.

Josh Ritter's "The Historical Conquests Of Josh Ritter" -- I cannot go wrong with this guy's creative musings -- I know that it's not out yet; but, once again, the dj at our place in the sun, had this covered; was able to get an advance copy -- run and don't stop for this one -- it's that good imho..

David Dondero's "Simple Life" - Laid back summer stay-cool music in the best possible meaning of the phrase. Love it!!

Calexico's "Tool Box" -- although many of us may be getting weary of the country-rock-alt style, these guys never let me down -- always fresh and always inspiring -- spin it eay!!

That's it for now, time to enjoy the seasonlllllllllll more ouzo and more music,

    Bill

    Good Morning...

    ....everybody.
At last a free weekend, as my busy time is winding down, to do some catching up.
Tune list from last night, amongst others:

"Amos Lee - Supply and Demand". What a great talent and a superb recording.

"Jesse Sykes & The sweet Hereafter - Reckless Burning". Beautifully haunting.

"The Go find - Stars on the Wall". Great laid back summer album with a hint of Pinback.

"Seaman Dan - Perfect Pearl" An '03 release from this 74 year old Pearl Fisherman.Cool.

"Ben Webster with Strings - Sophisticated Lady" Pure Bliss.

"Felix Baloy - Baila mi son" Afro Cuban all stars at their best. Sunshine music.

"Framed in Jazz Pictures at an Exhibition" Snap bobsticks and thanks to JM for this one. Perfect to wind the night down.

I am amazed that this old thread is still going. I just started it with a mundane question to hear what people are listening to, and it seems to have taken on a life all of it's own.
Thanks to all. I have picked up some great tunes through this.

    Have a good week.

    Peace

I'm listening to the new Interpol so I'll know what they're playing when I show up tonight.

    Interpol: Our Love To Admire

I like it better than Antics, but there's still nothing comin' outta these guys as good as or better than the first few singles they put out like PDA, New York and the like. Still looking forward to checking 'em out.

Hawkwind, good stuff. The only problem I have never heard a good recording. I had a vinyl and sold it to a big Hawkwind fan because I never listened to it due to the sound quality. I bought a CD once and took it back for an exchange because it was one of the worst quality recordings I've heard. If there are any remasters or titles you know of that are tolerable, let me know.
