Okay, okay, I deleted it because it seemed better to leave it over at the other board. Sorry for bringing your name into it JC and KEXPMF but I just wanted to joke around with Jay. You do bring up an interesting point though Jim that might be kind of fun to explore, and that is, how many songs from an album does one need to listen to before expressing an opinion? More than two? More than four? What if that person has also read some about it? Food for thought, but I gotta go to dinner now. Later gater

That's easy: he should hear the whole album before posting about the whole album. Otherwise, the person is more than welcome to comment about individual songs. As in, "I have no intention of getting the album based on the few songs I've heard, but from what I had heard, this other album is far better."

I mean, it's just like talking about a group. Is one allowed to say whatever they want about a band? Sure they are -- it's just that, you take a severe chance of being WRONG unless you know what you're talking about.

Hope that wasn't on my account. Look, like I said earlier, I ain't gonna use no smileys, not no way, not no how.

I don't think it's always real safe to either form an opinion or base an opinion on something that you've read.. Ever read a review you didn't agree with? How much faith would you have in a movie reviewer that didn't even bother watching the film and based his review on the trailers? Still I can see not wanting to have to sift through every single song in a catalog before being comfortable expressing an opinion. I know I fall short of that standard in many of my opinions.

Well it's late so I'm off to sleep. Chat with you knuckleheads tomorrow.

Thrashing, 'Maiden-esque melodies, dirgy bits, mulitfaceted vocals (and a general avoidance of silly "Cookie Monster" vox), Neurosis-like atmospherics, mathy structures, killer drumming (Brann Dailor is a monster!).... it's all here. It's even got a loose concept theme going on (think Moby Dick). Excellent opener "Blood And Thunder" has already been nicked by Slosh for his year-end comp, so that still leaves "I Am Ahab," "Iron Tusk," "Seabeast," and "Megalodon" to use for my own upcoming Offend Yr. Parental Unit comp. Oh yes. And 13-minute epic "Hearts Alive" ownz. This album rules, I cannot stress that enough.
Alright, now you need Remission! It's heavier, thrashier. At the time I called it the best metal album since Roots and I'll stick by that claim today.

    Davey,

It's wierd, there've been a lot of bands I thought I would like but after the initial 2-3 listens don't get much play. Hot Hot Heat is just one of those bands.

In other news I'm enjoying the Clash Comp and Razorlight album from Mike H, protesting the Beatles Box set, and hoping Mrs. Clause will bring me a copy of Ryan Adams' Heartbreaker on MoFi SACD as well as The Verve's Singles album.

Not much out right at the moment that I'm in a rush to get...I may pick up Snow Patrol's album on SACD though...

    Bill
