I just discovered the original version of Here I Go Again from Whitesnake from the 1982 album Saints and Sinners. The older version that didn't originally make it to the US is so damn great in that it captures an almost gospel/blues genre where the song literally starts with what sounds like a church organ. To me it is much more heartfelt and powerful than the overblown version that was introduced in 1987 on the album Whitesnake. The guitars sound so sweet and less distortion works much better in this case. I always loved the lyrics of Here I Go Again but the original version takes the sadness and heartache to a whole new level. "Just another heart in need of rescue waiting on loves sweet charity." That sure describes me right now. What song or songs are really important or meaningful to you?

Here is a link to Saints and Sinners at Amazon. The liner notes are very interesting learning that David Coverdale wrote Crying in the Rain and Here I Go Again during the breakup of his first marriage.
