iTunes is the Apple software that allows you to manage and play your MP3s through your computer and load onto your iPod. But you don't have to use an iPod with it, it's just a great tool for organising and storing music. You can build playlists, play random selections, write to CDR's etc.

Of course Apple would like it if you used it with an iPod and dowloaded music with it but if you have a big music collection yourself you've probably got more than enough music to keept you busy
