Fates Warning: X

X is really growing on me. I think it's a really mature and beautifully recorded album. I can't believe this is the same band that recorded "Awaken the Guardian" (and most of the lineup DIDN'T record ATG) but I don't miss the Iron Maiden-isms. I just love the overall textures of the guitars and keys.

Any thoughts?

Not much more to say than that, I've only heard it once so far. But first impression is that it is my second favourite album from them (first being A Pleasant Shade of Gray).

And you're right, they've come a long way. But they've long since come a long way.

It's growing on me too, I really like it. I don't care much for the distortion in the first track (how did they not catch that before releasing it?) but it's not a showstopper. It's a shame that this is Zonder's last album with them, but one must move on I guess.
