Everything is relative and personal of course. The Sennheiser HD650s are fine headphones but in direct comparison to the K701 is where the small, but noticable differences come out for me. Realistically speaking once one gets to this level of quality, the differences are by no means "night and day" or whatever other choice of hyperbole many people throw around.
I too have owned the Sennheiser HD650s (the full-size headphones I list in my profile, past and present have all been owned concurrently thus affording side-by-side comparisons) and they are top-tier headphones and many people swear by them over much higher priced headphones. Again, everything ultimately comes down to personal preference.

Hi CookieFactory,I'm glad your enjoying the AKG 701.I was eyeing them myself awhile back as a second headphone but being so impressed with the HD 650 I decided to wait to see if other headphones are comming down the pike in the future.I'm sure we'll both agree that headphones have indeed come a long way.Good luck and happy listening.
