Wrong so very wrong. Much the way I felt when I first read Michael Jackson owned much of the Beatles' catalog.

No surprise here, there are no limits or sacred boundaries to what can be bastardized for capitalism. Anyone who knows anything about Miles Davis understands the irony here...

Any one know what the selling price is? It's just wrong. When did Monster start getting into headphones? It doesn't surprise me they are behind this product.

thats just Hella crazy for a headphone like that. I like Miles Davis but damn a cheap headphone named after him is crazy. Its just one more reason for uneducated people to buy a product because of a name on the label.

Is anyone surprised of the fact that Monster did this? I am not. Monster is like Bose, more marketing than quality products. I do have to admit that their high end ultra fast HDMI cables are quite good, but overpriced to the hilt.

I understand your point and how you just love to argue, but point taken.

I do think Herbie Hancock is a douchebag for promoting a Bose product.
It's an amazing product for what it does, but it offers less than acceptable SQ.
Do I hate Mr. Hancock for it? No, but I was more than shocked... I still LOVE his music.

Do you know the company called Marten Design?
I've never heard their speakers (have not heard M.D. headphones either), but based on components they use, I'm sure they'll never hear a complaint from me and perhaps few others.

As far as ten grils you had mentioned, it doesn't make me sick at all.
Why does it make you sick? Cuz they should be in Jail, instead?
Actually, don't answer that cuz I don't care to know.

Good point though, but I imagine sure they are just rebadged $150 plugs.

That attitude is exactly why we now have Beethoven and Mozart's classics as milk ad's now. I hear what you're saying, but are we going to let these companies sell us back everything we love?!?

Some things are sacred, whether it's music, art or just an inspiring person. It should all be left to be just that, not satirized for commercial gain. \

I'm sure Mr. Davis' estate is fine and healthy without tarnishing his reputation for a quick buck. He would NEVER have agreed to something like this. I have read several books on him, have you?

I duuno about that. Miles was a great artist, but what he would have done is just speculation. It's also speculation about how well his estate is doing. Perhaps they really needed the $$$? Who really knows.

In any case a branded headphone doesn't "tarnish" his reputation in my opinion. As a matter of fact I can see someone wearing these phones and get asked; Who was/is Miles Davis We're nearly 20 years after his death now and a whole generation has not been exposed to his music.

Yes, opinions Geoff. If his estate is doing that poorly then I would think it has more to do with fiscal responsibility than income. In which case, they will need several more "deals" to stay afloat I'm sure.

You've made a good point about recognition, although I don't know how much anyone would care when it's discovered that way. As far as young people finding Miles, anyone who loves music and seeks out the best, will be lead to Miles Davis.

I have to say, short of his years spent as a drug addict, I can't see him jumping on any band wagon for a fast buck. That's just my impression.

Sure, as long as the picture captures him with a psychotic look in his eye, hair flying all over as he attempts to direct the players. Cool!!

You should buy a pair. They should go nicely next to your Harley Davidson rack system. Times are not THAT tough.

I think your really making leaps now. There's no way to know what the estate's finances are, or if they are frugal or not with it. Perhaps they are planning a world-touring retrospective of Miles, and they need to generate the cash to produce it? Perhaps the income from his residuals is so little that without doing this they would forced to sell the entire library of his works outright? You simply cannot know what went into this decision.

In any case, this DOESN'T look like a "fast buck" deal. The limited edition nature of this offering means that the "bucks" are going to be few. Also the buds look to be a pretty seriously GOOD product. I'm sure Miles wouldn't mind his name associated with top quality gear? Does Mark Levinson, or Conrad Johnson?

OK, ok, I don't want to argue here. I think the virtue of "few" lends itself to "fast". NO?

You are correct, who knows about his estate really. I certainly don't. I am making assumptions as did the post that prompted me to reply in the first place.

HOWEVER, Miles Davis' shrugged off alot of corporate "deals" and such through his career. Would he care about this one? We will need a spiritual psychic's assistance to really know. What I am saying, is based on everything I have read about him, including his own memoir, I am left to believe that he frowned on stuff like this.

What does Miles Davis have to do with any audio equipment? Nothing. This is all I am really trying to say. Bottom line, they are using his name and image to help sell a product.

    Peace and love, Chubbs
