Not even close. The IMAX screens are typically 72 feet wide and six stories high. The largest one is 98 feet high. I saw a movie today at one in the real world while vacationing.

The point is that a high end three gun projection system is far better in so many areas than the new digital displays. Light output is just one of them.

Ditto. A reviewer friend has a new Sony three gun projector with a 100" screen that is far better than an older Runco unit it replaced. Saturation is excellent. Since he is also an audio guy, the sound system is incredible: Magneplanar 20.1 mains, dual CC3 centers, 3.6 rears driven by an Edge MC amp with quad Nola Thunderbolt powered subs and sourced by a Tosh HD-DVD / Blue Ray through a Conrad-Johnson MET-5 pre / Krell processor using Nordost Valhalla cabling throughout. Incredible. While the IMAX theatre I visited today had 22 kw of power, its horn based audio system wasn't even close to the resolution and first octave performance of my friend's system. I'll have to give the video nod, however, to the IMAX.

The MET if not mistaken is a multichannel preamp without processing, so the analog outs of a HDD audio player could be used, if he has 2 multichannel preamps how is this set up? The other thing people who have heard Edge rave about them, but I have never heard one, what do you think of them?

The most impressive large screen I recall is while at a concert they used multiple screens on stage to run video clips during songs, I have never seen such large screens be so bright and vivid. I wish I knew the technology used, I don't see how they could be projectors with all the other lights and flames but maybe. The picture was much brighter and more contrast than any movie theater I've seen. Maybe theaters keep theirs darker on purpose.

You were probably seeing a commercial DLP or D-ILA projector. Those can light up a screen really bright even with the lights on. Good projectors for those situations, but they usually have terrible black levels(they look more grey than black)

And considering that most average movie theaters have screens 40-60' wide, I would say he doesn't get out much.

I believe the Krell he has is a processor only. That system is used for MC music, too.

Very clean SS amps with gorgeous aesthetics if you care. He also ran a pair of the Signature monoblocks in the main audio system for a while.

That is exactly what I meant, the only place in "the real world" that I have seen a 300 screen, doesnt exclude OTHER screens.
And of course my "sense of hunour" left when faced with a condescending attitude by
someone with poor reading skills and little comprehension.
I guess what pisses me off for real is that you know I was just using an expression,
just another chance to "talk down" to your betters.

ahh the memories... i went to an imax theatre once with this girl i knew. i was so excited to watch a movie on a really big screen. watched 5 minutes of it and made out with her for the rest. haha didn't even get past the opening credits.

but on a side note does anyone actually know how many hd-dvd movies are actually sold for money. here in australia they are selling the top end model for $540us dollars, you get $200 cashback and 11 free movies. you get 5 free with the basic model. now i have never seen anyone buy a hddvd movie. with these giveaway's surely the movie sales charts would be tarnished, when a huge chunk of the movies are GIVEN AWAY.
