    10K Shopping Spree...

    Ok,

Let's make this an interesting thread....you are suddenly given 10K to spend on an A/V shopping spree, whatever you want that is related to this hobby...what would you buy and why???

For me, 10K would get me the Classe Monoblocks that I have been dying to get. Probably wouldn't be much change left either. The reason: well, as I have said many times in the past this was the how the Platinum T6's were driven the first time I heard them and I have longed to have that experience again, so I want to make that perfect match in my own home. I am halfway there!

I would buy a used Goldmund Studio T3 Turntable, Allen Wreights small Phono Stage and a Koetsu System and buy LP's for the rest of the cash.
Lots of music but not enough time for it all

    I love a fun question

US$10k ... hummm. Not too hard really.

    I'd go for these ...
    • A brand new pair of Magneplanar MG 3.6, and
    • A nice, used Pass X250.5, let's say, as pictured below
    • Some modest SACD play like a Marantz SA8001
    ...

    Just Curious.

Once you get into the real exotic stuff (electronics), $ for $ is there really much difference?

Not until you get into super speakers. Speakers like a Genesis 201, 1.1, Alon Grand Exotic, Soundlab Prostat etc.... really are MUCH better then what comes after them but one can be happy with less too. But the difference is there and its massive.

Did you have to ask? See this thread, especially Mr Peabody, E-Stat, Peruvian Skies ...
How much difference does a CD player make?

OK, sorry to seem arrogant: wasn't really my intention. Then again this is an old, old topic -- see the latest go-round at the link I sent.

Hmmm.... I'd get a pair of Salk Sound HT1's (the only speakers I've heard that I liked more than Tyler Acoustics Linbrooks) and some nice stands. I think I'd go with one of the nicer Jolida integrated's with a remote. Then a decent vintage tuner for FM and lastly I'd probably get a decent, reasonably priced new tv (say about $1500) since I like to watch movies through my stereo. I'd probably stick with my dvd/vcr and use it for switching between the tv and the Jolida. The dvd player in my Samsung does a fine job on cd's at least to my ears. Then I'd take the rest of the bucks (about 5k?) and buy a ton of source material. Just my first reaction. Might get different electronics if I really thought it over.

Assuming I'm buying new equipment, with $10K I'd get a simple 2 channel setup:

    Revel Performa F52 Speakers
    Musical Fidelity A3.5 Integrated Amp
    Musical Fidelity A3.5 CD Player

Ok, maybe I'd get this instead...

Instead of the Classe monoblocks I'd try to find this used...

I'd try to find one of the many nice power amps from Musical Fidelity that have choke regulation -- perhaps an A308; a Maestro or a SDS from Singlepower with a preamp option; then get a pair of Gallo Reference 3's; a sub or two (a small one for the office); and a nice universal player -- perhaps the Linn Unidisk? Ayre? I don't know, I'd try and audition several of them.

I think I'm already over budget.

I would get three more Altec Valencias and some SETs to drive them.

Whatever was left over would help pay for the drawing up of divorce papers!!!!

I would get JBL Control 1x Pro Monitors because the titanimum lamintate tweeters make them sound crips and clear and professional studios use them because they sound so crisp and smooth and so good they are great speakers because this is what the man at Best Buy told me.

Yeah they go up to 500,0000 kilohurtz so they sound real good and crisp and are the best tweeters there are.

if everything used is about half price new, then there will be some money for room treatment

Being an HT guy, I would go this route. Didn't add them up so I may be slightly over. Throw the balance into the "are you in dept over this hobby" thread.

    A pair of Strata Mini's : http://www.av123.com/products_catego...akers&brand=54
Two pair of the Onix Reference 1 Monitor Loudspeakers: http://www.av123.com/products_produc...s&product=23.1
One Onix Reference 100 Center Channel Loudspeaker: http://www.av123.com/products_produc...s&product=26.1
    A Parasound - Halo A52 Five-Channel Amplifier: http://www.audioadvisor.com/prodinfo.asp?number=PAHA52
Or better yet, the Parasound - Halo A51 Five-Channel Amplifier: http://www.audioadvisor.com/prodinfo.asp?number=PAHA51
And a Parasound - Halo C2 Home Theater Controller: http://www.audioadvisor.com/prodinfo.asp?number=PAHC2
Or better yet, the Parasound - Halo C1 Home Theater Controller: http://www.audioadvisor.com/prodinfo.asp?number=PAHC1

OK, after a little adding, it looks like I'm in the 11k to 15k range. Can I slide for the rest? I'll gladly pay you Tuesday of next year for a stereo today.

I thought about posting on this thread, but my list kept changing. My system is a piece of shjt, so I think I would go somem like this:

All used(except for one) so this would take some time

    Moon LP5.3 ($1000)
    Pathos The Classic One ($1400)
    Clearaudio...Champion with Tangent arm($3500?)
    Benz Micro Glyder L($795)

    $3K left for speakers?
    Ahhhh Damnit!!!!!!!!!

Okay, the TT will have to go, so.....guess I'm stuck with a used:

    VPI Scout ($1100)
    Tyler Acoustics Super Towers ($4500?)

Hey I got some money left for some great tunes..
Maybe 30-40 records from one of those sites BrandonH posted.
and I dont have to sell my sh*tty system, right? Then Im good

    Jraaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
