everyone on the show is just so well developed...i keep switching who i think is the best because they just keep adding on so many layers.. or rather, reveal so many layers that are already there, so well written!!!
and what i loved in the first season which they are only now starting to get back to doing, is the whole 'partial reveal' of the character's story. the best example was the jin/sun background story the first time they showed it. that was pure brilliance. where they showed sun's side first, and jin just came across as this monumental jackass thug punk ahole (when she busts in on him in the bathroom and hes washing blood off his hands, etc.) and then like 2-3 weeks later they showed the jin backstory and his side of those events and then... bam! you love the guy and feel like a fool for hating him all this time. they've been doing that with sawyer a lot too, but they keep flip flopping the viewers emotions on him... making him a ahole, then giving you the understanding behind it, then back to ahole, then love him, then ahole... its great.

it really does seem like the island is a '2nd chance' opportunity for everyone, not that this is some mystical property of the island, but basic human nature as well, its almost like a fresh start, like an ability to start your life over, a 'reset' button, if you will. its getting to the point where it seems like these guys might not want to be rescued off the island.... although the whole Others-and-smokey-monster-imminent-death-on-any-day thing isnt the best home situation.

and i did pick up on that locke quote.. especially since there was a visible switch during that conversation. earlier he said "in THE hatch," and then the second time he said "in MY hatch, and I want him out of there."

you know what could be very interesting with henry gale... is if he is yet another "force" on the island... if his story actually is completely true (the balloon, dead wife, etc.) but his backstory is something completely different from there's (ala rousseau)... that he is not an Other, but maybe something else entirely. the "sickness" effected him in a different way then it did rousseau. maybe the sickness (and loss of alex) just amde rousseau a weird, hermit, esoteric nutjob, but turned henry into having delusions of grandeur... that he truly is the wizard of oz type character. since the wizard didnt belong in Oz any more than dorothy did. the wizard was never a part of Oz, and i dont think henry is a part of the island either, at least not in the same way the Others are a part of the island. Which means (absolutely nothing but) that the "He" that ethan and zeke were referring to outside of claire's room has not been revealed yet... the master Other... hanso?

and what in the hay is going on with michael/walt??? when are they bringing that storyline back??

That's very interesting. From a sociological standpoint that, on it's own, would be an interesting experiment. So, what reasons can we find for people to not want to return to their lives...

Kate - She's the easiest. She was being returned to the US to be tried for murder. She had a life in jail to look forward to. I don't care how many monsters are on the island, being free on an island sure beats being some monster's ***** in jail.

Jack - His wife left him. He turned his dad in to the medical board, then his dad ran off, got drunk and died...yeah, I'd say that Jack may have some issues that he doesn't want to return to face.

Hurley - He may be rich, but money hasn't brought him happiness. He's cursed (or so he thinks) and he lost his best friend. And we still don't know anything about why he was in a mental institution.

Sawyer - Another one who's likely hiding from the Law.

Sun and Jin - Neither one of them were happy in their previous lives. They seem to be finding a renewed love for each other. Jin is happier away from Sun's father and Sun is happier because Jin is happier and treating Sun better.

Charlie - he's away from drugs and has a fresh drug-free existance.

Sayid - We really don't know all that much about him yet. We need more Sayid back stories. What was he doing in Sydney???

Claire - Again, not really sure but I'm sure that Aaron has something to do with her being better off on the island. Could it be that she ended up keeping the baby?

Locke - He was in a wheelchair and now he can walk. He worked for a box company and his co-workers laughed at him. Now he's a pretty powerful guy on the island and people look up to him. It's like being a nerd in school, then being transferred to a new school and falling in with the cool kids.

Ana-Lucia, Echo, The Professor, Gilligan, and the rest - need more info.

Anyone else have any thoughts on this subject?

So far, everyone (other than michael) has taken an incredibly passive stance on getting off the island. it doesnt even seem like anyone has tried to even figure out some sort of rescue flare system, watch the skies, watch the horizon, or anything to get them off the island. in fact, since the opening fires on the beach, there has been NO attempt to have any sort of signal, and noone has been doing anything to build another raft, or even to build a signal raft to send off to sea with what information they have, like sending empty bottles with notes in them or ANYTHING to get off that island. they've all definitely begun to fall into a pattern of life-on-the-island. albeit its been about 2 months... but still... so far, doesnt seem like anyone really wants to be rescued.

With some of the hot babes they have on the island, who would want to be "rescued?"
    Anyone for a swim?

Not only are the washer and dryer obviously new, but when Hurley was taking inventory of the food he said that there was enough food to feed one man three meals a day for three months. Desmond had been there for three years. I find it hard to believe that he started with a three year food supply! And what would happen to him when he ran out of food in three months? Someone still has a vested interest in making sure that button gets pushed. And that someone is supplying the Station with food and other necessities.
Guess I nailed that one, huh? An air drop of food to the island. Very interesting indeed. Was the lockdown to ensure that whoever is in the hatch can't get outside to see where the food is coming from?

    WHO IS HENRY GALE???????
    (both of them)

There definately has to be some sort of connection between Sawyer and Locke's father. That they are both conmen is way too coincidental. There are no coincidence's on Lost.

And how about Locke's legs getting stuck under the wall. Okay, first of all, you managed to lift the wall with a crowbar earlier, so why didn't Henry just try to do it again so that Locke could slide out? I understand that he's injured but they didn't try very hard to free Locke IMO. The first thing that I though of when that door came down on Locke's legs was that you can't cheat Fate. Locke couldn't walk before he got to the island. Maybe his fate is to not be able to walk and he's cheating fate now by walking. I wonder how long that will last? ...a little foreshadowing by the writers here, perhaps?

And last but certainly not least....what the hell was on the wall! And why did it appear? Did it have anything to do with the food drop? All that I could make out clearly in the short time that they showed it was a question mark right in the middle. And because Lost fanatics are, indeed, fanatics...no time was wasted in posting a screen print of it on-line. Here's the link, http://lost.cubit.net/pics/2x17/blastDoorMap.jpg.

Edit: It looks like a map of the six Dharma stations with an arrow saying "I Am Here" pointing to the Swan. But the big question is...what's that question mark in the middle. And....what are all the little notations around the map. We need a closer look!

ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhh minkey!!! that was a good one! nice call on the food drop, i am sure one of my 4,000 theories will soon come to fruition now!

that screenshot is great, the center of the island.... the group is closest to the swan station, they found two other stations... so now all the translations will being as to what he has written... so the "i am here" is pretty obvious... and am guessing not desmond, would he have ben there long enough to compile that much information? maybe the guy desmind worked with in the hatch (forgot his name already)...
and.. right above the "cu" of cubit... does that say "Possible CV II - inactive since accident" somebody has definitely been busy.... great... now am gonna stare at this all night. THANKS!

well them not pushing the wall back up i could understand with locke's obsession on the button, that would take priority over wasting any time to get the wall up off of him.

great episode, really liked it, and really interesting with the henry gale reveal at the end and, even more importantly... NEW EPISODE AGAIN NEXT WEEK!!!! wooohooo!!!

henry gale: the oz analogy continues to a T (i think). the wizard lands in oz and takes on the personna of the wizard. this guy lands on the island and takes on the personna of henry gale of minnesota. the question is... why? is he an Other? that might be too easy, but then again, given how difficult they've made the show, maybe they're due for a 'gimme'. but i doubt it. is he something else? do we have yet another faction on the island? and... could he possibly be related to roussea's party? she was adamant to sayid that he would be lying. she KNEW in her eyes that he would lie for a long time before sayid got to the truth.. now why would she know that? (yes, i know she's crazy and that could be a part of it too, but crazy people are like animals, they can tell when someone is truthful or not) (ok that was horrible to say, but i think i read it somewhere)

It's hard to know what that says. The last word being "accident" makes sense, but when I look at it I think that it could be "occasion" also. The creaters are very smart. They knew that we would be all over that map like a bunch of hungry Losties on a food drop!

Edit: I just discovered that I can enlarge the image. That definately says what Kam suggests. And in the top left-hand corner is the word "incident". My guess is that at some point, we'll get another glimpse of this map with some of the images a little clearer. I think that we're on a "need to know" basis here and we're only gonna get little bits of this at a time.
