    Okay...still a bit behind

Watched ep 13 last night. Sawyer stole the guns...that dirty scoundrel.
Hopefully I'll catch up on th last 2 tonight.

I agree with you guys...the show would be better if it ran 23 consecutive weeks. And I bet ABC is keeping tabs on viewer feedback very closely. This kind of soap opera/drama needs continuity and rapid succession in story telling. Oh well, the next 2 months should be fun.

I don't have many theories as to what's going on here. To be honest, I've learned from experience a story like this that leaves the audience guessing, anticipating, begging for more, can never please everyone in the end. So I keep my expectations low, try not to guess too much so I don't set myself up for disappointment. All I know is that this is the first show in years (except for maybe 1 season of CSI) that I've watched that wasn't animated, didn't star Jerry Seinfeld, or didn't have Klingons in it...so I'm happy there's still some good TV on. (okay there's another - Canada has the best show I've seen in years called "Trailor Park Boys", but it's still relatively unknown back at home).

It comes in HD and Dolby Digital to boot!

I'm still torn between whether the Island is part of another Area 51/Government Conspiracy project thing or, if it belongs with the supernatural/alien/twilight zone camp.
    Maybe both?

I may have missed this awhile back in the thread...but has anyone been keeping tabs on some of the book titles we've or have been name dropped in the shows? Tons of classic sci-fi/supernatural thriller stories that this show borrows a lot from (besides Lord of the Flies of course). I think there might be clues there - I have a feeling the island might be a sort of Purgatory because of the last 2 book titles I saw were about guys that were dead but didn't know it, but it's been years since I've read "The Turn of the Screw" and "An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge".
I took a campy sci-fi lit course back in university...and these were two of the novels I remember, both were told from the "unreliable narrator" perspective - where we're given information and we believe what we're watching is the truth, but later on it's revealed what we saw was just an illusion or misinterpretation from someone's perspective. Both of those were dead guy walking the earth/ghost story kind of books too...maybe the survivors are all dead, but in denial?

anyhoo, I could be way off reading more into that, but more food for thought.

I haven't kept track of the books, but the level of obsession around here pales in comparison to some of the real Lost boards, where people take meticulous notes and watch the show frame by frame. I just don't have the time or energy to be that detailed.

If you check out some of the Lost boards, you may find a list of books and, I'm sure, comments about the books. But be warned...these message boards can be just as addictive as the show itself, especially the first few times you're there since there is just soooo much information to digest.

Here are a couple of Web sites that I've found to be particularly useful/interesting.

http://lost.cubit.net/pics/2x10/ - lots of very interesting screen caps here.
http://www.lostlinks.net/ - I go here to see the trailers that are shown in the US, as they are often different than the trailers that we see here in Canada (even on the US networks).
http://www.losttv-forum.com/forum/ - this is my preferred discussion board for finding information.

There are also web sites for Oceanic Air, Driveshaft, The Hanso Foundation, Whatever that 60's band was that they kept showing the album cover of in one episode (can't remember the name). Most of these sites (especially the Oceanic Air site) have easter eggs hidden in them.

Kex...you have no idea what you've gotten yourself into.

You know, I don't know why I didn't make this connection before...for Christmas I recieved a copy of the book The Mysterious Island, by Jules Verne. The book was written in the mid-1800's. It's about a group of escaped convicts who escape by hot air balloon and get caught in the mother of all storms. The storm sweeps the balloon to god-knows-where, and they end up stranded on an island where strange things happen. I haven't read the book yet, so I don't know what strange things. I won't ruin the ending for you but, apparently, there is a logical explanation for everything (which I accidently stumbled upon while reading the Introduction in the book . I guess that the publishers figured that anyone reading a book that is 150 years old, probably knows the ending by now...only I didn't).

Anyway, my point is...could there be a connection between Henry's balloon ride and the balloon ride that lands Verne's convicts on their island?

I can't wait to read this book. I'm just finishing up a course that I'm taking and the minute that my exam is over, I'm cracking open The Mysterious Island!

i did see a list of books and synopsis of them on one of those sites (they are very addictive!) and some things that i found interesting, was it is generally sawyer who is the source of the books, and one of the early books he was reading, was Watership Down, and a good number of the other books all had some sort of the 'unreliable narrator' thing going on.

kexo, i thought i read somewhere that the creators have said that the purgatory theory isnt accurate, that might be the only theory they've commented on, but i'm not positive, i've been reading so much stuff on it from 'unofficial' sites that i dont know what's real anymore (other than the numbers, i'd never betray you my beautiful numbers... my precious.....)

so... back to reality... (relatively speaking) the balloon Oz connection is huge!! could they have inadvertantly captured the head Other?? although him being gone for 2 days, i would imagine the Other army would march on the losties in full force to get him back UNLESS.... (my latest in a long line of useless theories) he wanted to be captured, he LET himself be captured by rousseau because he knew exactly what would happen. He'd be inside with the Losties and could cause further mischief (he seems very Loki-esque for those fans of norse mythology).
i also like the rapture idea and have had similar theories (i think) in the past. that the island is a microcosm of our world.

Watership Down is one of my all-time favourite books. I read it every four or five years. It's on deck for sometime this summer. Not becaue of the Lost connection, just because it's time to read it again. WD is about a society (albeit rabbits) who is displaced and on the move to find a new home and rebuild their lives by creating a new society. I can certainly see the connection with Lost, especially since the book was introduced early in S1, when the Losties were contemplating how to survive and create their own new society.

Kex....don't read any further in this post if you haven't watched the last two episodes yet!!!!!

If Henry is an Other, I don't think that his capture was accidental. Could Henry be Zeke??? That stuff that Kate found in the locker in the third bunker looked an awful lot like Zeke's beard and clothes.

i thought "zeke" was the guy talking to ethan outside claire's room... when there's that knock on the door and ethan walks outside and talks to someone who we dont really see, but briefly (without any beard or makeup on) it sure sounded like his voice matched "zeke's" voice too. add on that beard and makeup to his face, and i thought that was him.
although i remember (again my shoddy memory) something where it was said they will find the balloon he supposedly came in in the next episode.... although might be another red herring....

The subtle hints like the book titles, the coincidental, almost subliminal repeated mention of the numbers...all these things are put there for a reason ( I think).
Or maybe they're just red herrings. That'd be even more diabolic...

I think the purgatory theory is the easy way out, so I'm not surprised if that's been debunked by the creators.

Maybe the Island just acts like a giant tuning fork for channeling psychic abilities? All the weird crap that Walt pulled in Season 1. The convenience of finding Desmond, Rousseau, etc. All the creepy coincidences. The survivor's thoughts are making all this stuff happen.

And what's up with Locke walking? Did we ever confirm that he was legit crippled and that it wasnt' all psychosomatic (as in he was doing it to himself)?

I forgot about the guy talking to Ethan. I think you're right. Besides, Henry doesn't look or sound anything like Zeke. And besides, Jack would have recognized him. I was just thinking out loud.

that's the key though about the fake beard/makup!! why disguise yourself from a complete stranger?? i dont think jack is a complete stranger to zeke. i think the connections go even further back in time than just the current crop of losties to each other, but like the jack/desmond connection. i bet we'll start up with losties/others connections now, most probably with Henry and someone in the next episode, where maybe the Other knows of the connection, but the Lostie doesn't, or at least is not AS aware of the connection.

    Possible spoiler?

Just was watching a NBC show a couple of days ago, and they were promoing some new detective/crime drama. And it appears that one of the lead female actresses is Rameriez (sp) the helper for Jacks army. One would suppose that she will be killed off shortly, as I don't imagine ABC giving the go ahead for her to work for another network while on LOST.

Also, wondering if her second DUI is going to affect her work. She could be in for some serious trouble if it messes up her terms for her probation in LA for DUI.

Anyways, did anyone else see the NBC promo?

    Nevermind

Ok, forget the last post. I got on NBC and looked up the new shows. It is called Heist, and they had a clip you could play. It IS NOT Remierez from LOST. My bad, sorry about that, but at least I got it cleared up.

So here's what my TV Guide says about tonight's episode...

Sun wrestles with the thought of telling Jin a newfound secret that threaten's to upset the entire balance of the survivor's community.

I'm willing to bet that the secret IS NOT Sun's pregnancy. That's too easy. I hate the part in the trailer where Sun goes to Sawyer and asks for a pregnancy test. Who the hell travels with pregnancy tests?!! If he ends up having one, that came out of the plane crash, that'll just make this show too unbelievable for me.

The Canadian network that airs Lost is the same network that airs American Idol. Because of a scheduling conflict they are showing Lost at 8:00 tonight. So I can either watch it at 8:00 on CTV or at 9:00 on ABC. Or....both! WooHoo!!!!

Don't worry, I won't post any spoilers! Teeheehee.

Haven't you ever seen Gilligan's Island. If the Professor can make a nuclear reactor out of coconut shells, then Sawyer should be able to pull a pregnancy test out of his....

yes... right... i see.... THAT'S what would make the show slip over into the realm of unbelievable... apparently these dharma guys can bring a group of people who are so esoterically connected to an island that contians a strange smoke monster, polar bears, black stallions, intelligent, reborn boars, an ancient ship, strange psychological experiments, and far reaching conspiracies that stretch the fabric of space and time including having one man win the lottery and buy a box company that another passenger on the plane happens to work for as well as a doctor who chose not to operate on the father of another passenger on the plane as well as a conartist who ran into the father of that doctor in bar in australia as well as the father of one passenger happened to run into another passenger during Gulf War1... BUT.... someone better not have been travelling with a pregnancy test on that plane when Sun thinks she might be pregnant because THAT would be too much of a coincidence...

Okay Lost producers, I forgive you. C'mon you knew that I couldn't hold a grudge.

What a great episode! And next week's looks even better. Okay, I'm back on the hook...reel me in.

First off, I would like to thank Kate for her comment, "Who flies with a pregnancy test?". Obviously the writers knew that would be a bone of contention. Who?, indeed.

    Now, my observations...

Sawyer reading Are You There God, It's Me Margaret totally cracked me up. For those not familiar with the book, it's about a 13-year-old girl reaching puberty and getting her period for the first time. It was all the rage when I was 12! Given that this episode was about pregnancy, I can see the relation to the book. But having Sawyer, of all people, reading it, was just too funny!

In the back story Jin comments that "A baby will change everything". I immediately thought of previous comments like "everything's about to change".

Locke and Jack were talking while AL was in the room with Henry, and Locke had the Geronimo Jackson album on his lap.

I loved AL's comment, "Jack and Locke are too worried about Locke and Jack".

And Henry's little story about what he would do if he were one of them. Hmmmm. I can understand his cynicism, but if I were him and I was telling the truth, I'm not sure that I would want to rock that boat. It's pretty obvious that the people keeping him hostage are walking on tightropes and, as he said, have trust issues. I think that I would just stick to my story and, otherwise, keep my mouth shut. But that wouldn't make for very interesting TV.

Great writing in this episode. My love affair has been renewed.

yeah that was a solid episode!

ok... so... that look on sun's face after she hugged jin at the end... ??? what was that all about?? right after she swore she hadnt been with any other dude and that he said it was a miracle... all happy smiles and then...? that odd look?

and i think the "who flies with a pregnancy test" question is going to come back up... like maybe it was ana lucia's? or shannons? or maybe even kate's?

henry... i think there's something there, he's playing way too much of a game to be a normal person in that situation. i think he is the head other. this is the classic kaiser soze treatment he's giving them with everything but the club foot. and what he didnt say about what he would do IF he was an Other but is obvious by his actions... devide and conquer. they cant win either way now, so they find the balloon and maybe even the grave of a woman... what does that prove? that the Others killed a woman who arrived in a balloon... what else?

and when having breakfast, he wasnt acting like someone inquisitively would to wonder what everyone else knew... he was testing them. seeing that they didnt know anything, and rubbing that in their face. (i.,e. the obvious... i'm sure they would ask tons of questions... but to whom?)

and they had a nice set up for a future romance between AL and sayid... now that'll be a firey one!

I just assumed that the look meant that she had lied to Jin about not being with another man. Jin's pride couldn't handle the truth, but it would allow him to believe that "it's a miracle" even if he knew, deep down inside, that it was impossible.

Nah, I think that they knew that people like me just wouldn't buy it. Although, I did write down the name of the manufacturer in order to look it up on the internet later.

I wouldn't like to see that one. It's just too cheesy. Sayid falling in love with the woman who killed his previous girlfriend. Besides, I think that they're too much alike to have a romance. I can see them ending up friends and trusting each other to watch each other's backs. The opposite of the relationship developing between Locke and Jack. Sayid and AL could be very strong allies.

And here's another thought of mine that occured during this episode. I thought that there was no more food left in the hatch. I thought that Hurley had distributed it all to the Losties in the episode where he took inventory of it. But, here's Jack and Locke and Henry munching on Dharma cereal. And here's Hurley munching on a chocolate bar from his hidden stash. Why have a hidden stash if there's still food in the hatch? Or, doesn't Hurley know that there's still food? Wouldn't everyone on the beach want some? Is this from Locke and Jack's hidden stash? And.......what's in the food? Mood altering drugs? The antibodies to the "sickness"? Something that Hanso Industries is testing? Or, am I just getting paranoid? If I had a hidden stash of Dharma cerial, I wouldn't be sharing it with someone who I suspected was my enemy.

    Hmmmmm......

yeah i guess sayid/AL would make a better aliance than romance.

but one thing these idjets i work with brought up is this... the question between AL and jack..
after she says, if that's allright with you (about questioning henry tomorrow) jack says, "dont worry, i didnt tell anyone."
i took that to mean AL was taking a jab at him with her "alright with you" comment as in. "thanks-for-letting-me-in-on-this" and his response was meaning, look i didnt tell anyone about henry so dont think i was trying to exclude you. but everyone here seems to think that he was referring to something else? any thoughts?

and now for my extreme paranoia kams-taking-it-TOO-far thought... maybe it was my contact lenses or something, but the opening "LOST" title... now it generally only comes into focus for just a fraction of a second as it goes back out of focus, but last night, i noticed a little ripple in the T of LOST as it spun towards us... now, NORMALLY i'm not this insanely paranoid about every little nuance BUT with this show, how could you not be?? did anyone notice that or was it just a glitch in time warner cable?
