I think these reissues are pretty good, but the playback volume level seems to be a bit low...
Have you noticed this as well?

Indeed I have, but I tolerate it quite happily by adjusting the gain knob on the phono preamp. Of these four, Zoot was not as low as the other three.

some dynamic recordings are intentionally mastered at a lower level to accommodate the dynamic range of the performance.
example: matt catingub's :your friendly neighborhood big band" is this way on one side due to wide dynamic range. it may well have lunched the cutting process if done at the usual level. the label-reference recordings made that decision rather than compress or peak limit the disc.

Oh...thats a young looking Zoot. I know all about Zoot.... Did a few things with Al Cohn. He did a lot of stuff with swing bands of the 40 and 50's as well. Hes and old master sax man up there with the greats...Hawkins, Lester Young, and the likes.

Frenchmon,
Love that album by J.H. !! I think that is one of his best. I have it on digital file, so it must be even more fantastic on wax! When did you get the Bel Canto?

Oh that old thing? Actually that is a fine piece of equipment. You don't find many reviews on it. A few but not many. Have you listen to one? If so what where your thoughts? The only problem I have with Bel Canto is they can be proprietorial. That piece is a loaner from my dealer...I may purchase one some time before the year is over if I find the right preamp.
-
No, I have not heard one before; curious really of what you thought of it? I have noticed lately that many people on Audiogon are selling very good integrated in order to buy, or have just purchased Bel Canto's.
Something in the air?
-
I gave a few thoughts of what I thought over at the " Digital Domain & Computer Audio" thread.
-
Bought my first album in many years today - Elton John's "The Red Piano" only $9.98 at Best Buy for this three record set.

I'm sorry if I left you hangin' on the email, pops! I didn't notice that. I think I remember that John Jenkins set, but I don't see it here. Maybe I don't have it?

Just got my copy of the Steve Hoffman double LP Fleetwood Mac rumours a few days ago. Sounds awesome too, very impressed.

Hey man...whats all those do-hickies you got on the left side of the Technics? A phono preamp?
-
Hey frenchie,
What I have between my Technics & Hagerman Cornet2 are K&K LL1931 SUT and Peerless 4722 SUT.
-
I bought a Charles Mingus vinyl, best decision I ever made.

Ever listen to any of Modern Jazz Quartet? I'm really enjoying that one.
