I have heard the great rambling Jack dozens of times. No Dylan, but still great IMO.

Admittedly, Dylan's music is much more engaging.

The problem is when you look at the specific history of Dylan's association first with Guthrie (whom everyone at the time idolized), and then Elliott, one can't help but be a little miffed with Dylan. He did however find his own voice and style but in the beginning, it was Elliott's he portrayed.

There is a legendary story about Woody Guthrie's time with Lead Belly. He would always ask Lead Belly to show him riffs, but Lead Belly would say "if you want a riff, steal it...I'm not just gonna give it away!"

Thinking of that, I think Dylan did what many musicians had done before him and certainly after.

Suddenly I want that Dylan Box...and a nice new suit.

Also, damn a lot of good jazz floatin' around here these days.

I'm just listening to a bunch of Husker Du after reading a new book about the band my little brother got me for Christmas.

Last weekend I picked up a $2 minty copy of Little Feat's double album "Waiting For Columbus" from 1978. Hadn't heard "Don't Bogart That Joint" in many a moon.

Also for a buck I scored Cat Steven's "Catch Bull At Four". Back in the day a local hifi store used to play this album to show off their EPI-100's.

That's him. The album features Anita O'Day and Roy Eldridge. There was a nice little batch of records there, that day. Someone with tastes similar to mine must have come in and sold some records right about that time.

That's "Zoot" Sims. I took a shot in the dark on that one. I saw the sax and decided I wanted it. I'll let you know how it sounds.

Wow, real nice. If you like that Jamal LP then you must check out The Awakening. Zoot Sims can blow as good as any of em.

Zoot turned out to be fantastic. A real toe-tapper. It was enough to make me stop and just listen without distractions. I love the energy of it. It's not like it's technical perfection or anything. It's like the guy in The Big Chill said, though, "Sometimes you have to just let art flow over you."
