Question Re Sansui 771 & Pioneer Sx 8000
Hello to all: I own a Mint SANSUI 771 and was wondering if I should sell it or put it on eBay. I have not seen many like this before. The Reciver is very Heavy, Well Built and Packs a lot of power and quality sound. I also have a SANSUI G-9000 DB but I could swear that the 771 sounded every bit as good.
I am also considering selling my PIONEER SX 8000 that sounds great and looks great. Bottom line, should I hold on to the SANSUI 771 & the PIONEER SX 8000 as collectibles, or sell them? I am trying to make room in my office, and need to thin out my collection.
Please advise,
Rocky
Please note: The SANSUI G-9000 DB is not up for sale.

I guess my only real vintage component is my '60s H.H. Scott 370-B stereo FM tuner (needs restoration). My next oldest I don't consider vintage, but it's a near-mint '79 Technics SL-1700MK2 'table with an '84 Stanton 981HZS pro calibrated MM cartridge.
I'll also include all my NOS vacuum tubes (except for my year old 300Bs):
*NOS '40s Canadian Westinghouse 6K7G drivers
*NOS '50s Mullard GZ37 rectifier
*NOS '50s RCA 6SN7GTB drivers
*NOS '58 RCA OC3 regulator
*NOS '67 RCA OD3 regulator
*NOS '50s Mullard GZ30 rectifier

How do you like your '1700MK2? I've got an '1800MK2 myself, with a Shure M97xE cart. My stylus illuminator lamp burned out, so I replaced it with blue LEDs from kabusa.com. Doesn't help the sound quality, but sure looks nifty, lol!:cornut:
Jeff
P.S. Cool tubes!

The older audio related stuff I have is
Art Blaey TJM - At the Cafe Bohemia (1955)
Original pressing in an excellent condition. It is labled 767 Lexington Ave, not 47th West 63rd. Sounds too good for me to ever sell it.

- Denon TU-500, 1974 -- sold: US$270
- B&W DM7 speakers, 1980 -- sold Cdn$200
- Audio Technica Signet cartridge, 1989 -- still around, but not in use
- Technics SL-PS70 CDP, 1992 -- still around ...
- Realistic LAB-2200 turntable, 1993 -- the trashman cometh!
The Denon is still going strong and sounds great. The Apt Holman is still in use as a phono stage only; the Realistic is also still in use; (shows how much I care about vinyl).
The B&W are still around and occassionally in use, though not in my main system; (incidentally, they totally suck today -- absolutely no dynamic capability -- I can't believe they haven't deteriorated from when I bought they way back when).
Recently added to my system are the following vintage items:
- Technics SL-D2 turntable, late '70s
- Denon TU7-67, 1985
I'm getting a couple of DACs for cheap, viz.
- Entech 203.2, $81
- Assemblage DAC 1.5 with HDCD, $174
Since my old Technics SL-PS70 player was a top-of-the-line model, it will make nice transport, so I might haul it back into service with the Entech.
In the bedroom I'm using a couple of vintage items ...
- NAD 7130, early '80s -- nice
- Radio Shack MInimus 7 speakers, early '80s -- yuck!
See my current stereo system at the link below ...

@jt1stcav, are you on Audiogon too? i happened to look around on the virtual systems pages, and i think i found your system (i'm not a member of audiogon forums or so, but i like to take a look there from time to time)

Vintage part of system
My Yamaha CT -1010 Tuner from around 1977 I guess. Greatest bang for the buck of any component I have yet owned. I will strongly consider vintage/used for my next component replacement/addition.

I just went all trough my system....
I have a mint Sansui AU417 with a Rotel 965BXLE CD player. this is fed into a set of vintage Ohm model L's and a set of Paradigm 3SE's...for low listening I have a very old Pioneer SA5500II with a Onkyo DX1800 CD player that feeds a set of JBL riva's. I have a few tube DAC's but dont really use them much...and Graddo headphones..
I would keep every piece of old gear, mostly the older int. amps. I do believe they are gonna fetch good money in the future. I know a few very hi end recording studio's that wash down a mix on old analog amps before mastering...I had a few new digital amps, and the sound was very thin next to my analog gear...

Hi all,
My vintage electronics, Mark Levinson ML 1 w/latest mods, Denon DP 47 F, Denon DCD-1520, Denon DRM 800, and Infinity Reference Standard 6 Kappas.

Bert, yep...I'm on AudiogoN, too (I'm also on AudioKarma, Klipsch Forums, Steve Hoffman Forums, AudioCircle, etc. I'm everywhere...LOL)!
Jeff, I'm absolutely thrilled with the SL-1700MK2 and its performance. Sure, it's not a megabuck Clearaudio or VPI belt-drive 'table, but with my Stanton MM and a Sumiko Blue Point MC (that's worn and needs replacing), it does a respectable job of reproducing my 180-200 gram LPs in grand style. All I need now is a decent tube phono stage to replace the entry-level Music Hall and I'm all set!
-
I have a pair of Pioneer Project 80's speakers from the late 70's early 80's which were being used as the B Speakers in an A/B set up with a pair of Bose 201 Series II that are now in their 20th year of use.
Think the Pioneer's maybe going to the Salvation Army though since my wife does not want them in the living room anymore and I don't have any other use for them.
-
in our barn is my dads old system, still sounds great. a marantz receiver/am/fm/tape deck (great reception) and 2 RTR speakers. with about 10 or 12 inch drivers and tweeters. I don't remember the model number on the receiver, but i have not seen another like it.

This is my only piece of vintage gear, but if I see anymore deals like this Ill pick up more. Here's a link to an ad featuring my speakers - http://www.lansingheritage.org/image...home/page3.jpg They are the smallest ones shown, and are listed as "d" on the list.
I have a pair of Altec Valencias that were bought in 1965! I retired them to my master bedroom after I upgraded my home theater.
Unfortunately, I was not able to integrate them into the new system. Just too old, to hard to find, and too big! They are still in great condition and are still used for two channel listening.
Photos are here! His and Her Room!
P.S. Our home theater just made the March issue of Audio Video Interiors so take a run over there if you get a chance.

That is very interesting. I assumed Lansing came later because no where on the speaker is Lansing mentioned like their "newer" speakers. Thanks for the correction.

Update / 2
My latest addition is a Sansui C-2101 preamplifier, circa 1984. (Is post 1980 really vintage??) I bought this at Audiogon as a backup for my Sonic Frontiers LINE 1, (which is presently at Parts Connexion for repairs). I paid $95.
I will used the Sansui as a phono preamp on an on-going basis. It has MM, MC-Low, and MC-High; I sold my Cambridge Azur 540P since I don't need it anymore.

Hi all, this is my first post in this forum!
My stuff is pretty much all vintage, which I got into a few years ago (when I started replacing the BPC system I bought in the late '80s). Right now my "collection" includes:
Main system:
Setton RS-440 receiver
Realistic STA-2080 receiver (standing in until the Setton gets its tuner realigned)
Kenwood KD-3050 TT (marble base)
Pioneer PL-510A TT - (I'm alternating between the two turntables now, but will have to decide which one's a keeper)
Akai CS-MO1A cassette deck
Harman-Kardon HD 7300 CDP
and three sets of speakers I'm rotating until I make a decision which to get rid of:
AR-2AX
Fisher XP-7B
Realistic Nova 8B
Home office:
Pioneer SX-450
Realistic Minimus 7
Office at work:
Fisher 432 receiver (quad, baby!)
Criterion 4x speakers
Onkyo CDP (7311? Don't recall)
I have a minty pair of Wharfedale W30D's and a crappy-looking but working pair of AR-4's; one of them will replace the Criterions, which were freebies and don't sound bad, but are too big for work.
I have some other random gear sitting around - Optonica 5205 receiver, Sansui 210, Sanyo Plus 75 (needing repair) - now that good weather is coming I'm planning to refinish or refurbish all my stuff, sell off or give away my excess, and make my wife happier in the process.
As you can se, my "fi" is definitely "mid", but I like my gear. Sounds way better than my old HT setup, and I like the looks of the older gear. Besides, scouring thrift shops and Craigslist I've been able to try out a lot of great gear for basically free.
Even my main CDP is kinda vintage (the HK dates from '91 or so) and this summer I'll probably upgrade to a Sony CE-595 or an Oppo 970 - I'd like to try out SACD. Anybody have experience with either of these players?

Heck the only modern unit I have is a cd/dvd player, a Philips 951-something or the other.
I have to admit, I'd sure like a remote on the pre, and a good quality cd player, maybe tubed like Justlisten2s'. Other than that, I like my sound.
Anyone?

Vintage Audio Buff Here,
My Gear:
Pioneer HPM-60's speakers
Celestion SL6si's speakers - model year unknown
NAD 7140 Receiver - model year unknown
NAD 5120 TT - model year unknown
Monster Cable 20ft length - Original Clear Jacket 12 gauge Oxygen free "Thats right the good stuff" - these cables are the first company issued cables, and I bought them new in 1979.
I so far am doing great with this set up because I have a great set of interconnects "Sonic Euphoria" made locally by an audio wizard named Jeff @ "Jeff's sound Values" here in San Diego - link below. And I did not mention my CD player which is a newer phillip's CD stand alone dual tray audio burner. Or my DVD player and older VCR because these items are not vintage "hence the topic. I will also have a modified pair of BIC Venturi 52si's hooked up for listening once I have the crossovers back from Ed Frias @ EFE Technologies. I CAN'T WAIT TO HEAR THE BIC'S WHENTHEY ARRIVE.....

I own some old (big) Pioneer speakers, a Marantz 2270 receiver and a in-need-of-repair Garrard SL65 turntable. I also have a Sony TC-WE305 cassette deck (not sure if it's old enough to qualify as vintage though). :ihih:
-
I'm currently using a 1960's modified Dynaco PAS 3X tube preamp. It works quite well with my Bel-Canto amplifier.
-
I have in operation all bought new when in the Air Force overseas 2 Pioneer 901 60 lbs speakers, Pioneer Quad QX 949, Sansui FR4060 turntable with Pickering cartridge, 1 Akia 202 4 channel reel to reel, 1 Akia 75d cassette all bought in 1975 and 1 Sansui metal cassette player bought in 1980.

Pioneer SX-780 Receiver
Technics SA-DX930 Receiver (just bought it at a pawn shop for $85. Probably not "vintage".

1967 Klipschorns
1984 Klipsch Cornwalls
1979 Klipsch Heresys
People either seem to love or hate the Heritage series speakers from Klipsch. You can tell what side of that fence I'm on..................
-
I'm running an old Tandberg TCD 310, an enormous half-functional Sony HME-228, and a Pioneer SX-212 Stereo Reciever (which I'm having some trouble with as of a few minutes ago). Pumping out sound are two Sony SS-440's and two small EPI's, which my dad has had forever. I'm listening to old Chuck Mangione/Spyro Gyra 8-tracks. It sounds great.:D

That's a nice setup. My bandmates and I used 60's Klipsch's (not sure of the year) but are no longer allowed to use them due to our crime of borrowing our bassist's dad's Hammond B3 when he was taking a vacation in the Adirondacks. Bad move.

We have an old house with 22 rooms -- I keep 4 systems going all vintage --down thru the years- I have found some neat stuff pretty cheap -- I move stuff around -- right now syst 1. Dahquist DQ10s -- with a Linn Kairn pre-amp (wow) and a Carver amp -- a Yamaha CD1 is inthis system -- (wow but it is the most finicky thing I own) Syst 2. Marantz receiver Sansui Speaker wit the old wooden grills (cool) Syst 3 ( a lexicon surropund system). JBL 4311s -- crown 3000A -- old sanyo plus pre amp -- lexicon original 5 channel surround processor --sansui receiver for rear channels --polk R25i for surrounds Yamaha AVC to power center channel -- Polk CS101s -- BTW this hodge podge surround system really rocks -- syst 4. another surround -- Carver 880 Receiver ( neat) - Norman Labs Towers for front -- Carver rears and center -- this is a neat system -- I use these electronics to test speakers -- I currently have a couple of Klipsch Heresys hooked up to another Carver amp in the same room -- it is a stupid room -- it is only about 12x12 -- I have about 15 sets of speakers in there and lots of stuff just laying around -- my wife hates it -- but it is every boys dream -- some of it is pretty cheap but some is nice --- oh well the last new piece I bought new other than CD and DVD players was a Yamaha AV1000 integrated amp ( I think it was their first DSP unit) that was about 20 years ago --things have away of moving around and to my wife's dismay -- I bring something old home just about every week -- last week -- a pair of Phase Tech 60 speaker and a really bad pair of AR 3As -- this is fun

My stereo system equipment is:
- Marantz 1070 Amp
- Priboi (Russian) Tube Amp
- Technics SU-V650 Amp
- Onkyo DX-7711 CD Player
- Onkyo DX-6850 CD Player
- Thorens TD145 MKII Turntable
- KLH Five Speakers
Marantz, Thorens and KLH were new when I bought them in the seventies, the others were used (and cheap!) later buys. You probably can't call the CD Players "Vintage" but they certainly are robust.
-
I got a vintage first generation Koestu Black. Sum***** still plays, too, and a Marcof battery powered MC step up transformer that I batteryed up just this past weekend but, regrettably, it remained silent. Think I'm gonna look into that. Got some Kenwood L07 monoblocks from the seventies that I use to drive my stereo set up with TV. Also have an original Counterpoint SA-5 pre amp boxed up cause it needs repair. That's not an oldy as much as it is probably rare.

Lovin' the Pioneer Silver Series Stuff...
Hello, all!
Nice to see a lot of good ole' vintage stuff here...I was beginning to think those of us who love the old stuff were S.O.L.!
I started collecting my Silver Series equipment whilst stationed in England with the USAF in the late '70s. Started with a pair of Pioneer HPM 1100s, coupled with a SPEC-4 power amp and SPEC-1 pre, with a PLL-600 turntable sporting a then-megabuck (almost as much as the turntable at the time: $212) Audio-Technica cartridge - never saw the need for a Linn or other more esoteric turntable, especially as I deployed a LOT.
Later on (MUCH later, as in last year), I added in the RG-7 and RG-9 processors in with my DBX 128 and caught good deals on a mint RG-707 RTR and an equally-mint CTF-1000 cassette deck.
I've also added on a pair of early -90's vintage Magnaplanar SMGs and a pair of Klipsch Quartets, which I use in my garage workroom.
Am in hopes that I'll be able to afford having the SPEC-1&2 completely re-vamped by a firm in New York soon, and follow that up with a vintage Pioneer CD P-70 CD deck to finish my 'set,' as the Philips CD recorder is fine, but doesn't match the rest of the setup.
Finally, while the HPM 1100s rock, I DO love the Apogee/Carver and higher-end Maggies, as they have much better high-end response than my older SMGs. That'd be my one condescension to 'vintage'- a pair of newer speakers for general listening to replace the older Maggies.
I may have to lose both the Klipsch AND the Maggies in the process, but hey, I want the higher-end freq response the SMGs just can't give...c'est la vie for those who like the older stuff, eh?

I have a Pioneer component setup from the early '80's - all made in Japan, but with black fronts. SA-1270 stereo amp, PL-570 turntable, TX-970 tuner, CT-1170W double cassette deck, CS-D9000 speakers and a 1991 6-CD player - PD-M453. I don't remember what it cost when I bought it, but it was really something! Still plays and looks good as new since no one touched it except me. Any idea what it's all worth today?
-
I have an old mid 1970's Technics 40wpc integrated amp along with a Hitachi tuner. Also have an old 1980 Yamaha A400 integrated amp. The Technics was and still is a great amp. It was well made and weighs a ton and could crank out the power. It still sounds great. The Yamaha amp is also 40wpc but weighs about 5lbs and is junk.

Just added a Technics SL-1500 (circa 1976) to my vintage collection today.
Picked it up for $16 at a local thrift just as it was dropped off, it even came with the original owners manual.

Thanks.
I had an entry level Technics table back in the early 80's that I loved so hopefully this will work as well. It had a European plug but after getting an adapter I powered it up it seems fine. Can not tell the type of stylus it has but it looks to be an Audiotechna. Will hook it up and see what happens.
