worth upgrading to Tech Def promonitor 1000s

I presently have 2 Onkyo front speakers and wonder if replacing them with 2 of the def tech promonitor 1000's would be worth it.
Have sub woofer and center speaker
    Primary use is tv/movies

    The specs on the Onkyo:
    2 way bass reflex
    12cm OMF Woofer
    2.5cm balanced tweeter
    55hz - 50khz

    The Promonitor 1000
    2.5 tweeter
    13.34cm mid woofer
13.34 tweeter mid array bass radiator
    47hz - 30khz

What are you driving the speakers with? If you have one of those All-in-one systems you may be better off keeping the Onkyo speakers as the All-in-one are designed to work together. If you have a separate receiver it is my opinion the Def Tech's would be an improvement. You may even want to look at the Golden Ear line designed by Sandy Gross who used to work for Def Tech. The Golden Ear have been really raved about by reviewers and owner, they are also really reasonably priced based on performance.

I have a pair of the Def Tech Pro Monitor 1000's and use them for TV sound and they sound great for that purpose. They suck for music. I run a 2.1 system for TV. They can put out some nice bass when they need too but if you really want bass you need to run a sub. I run mine with a old Pioneer 5.1 AVR. They will sound better than cheap Onkyo's.
I would get the matching Def Tech center and not mix and match.

    Thanks.
I picked up the tech def procenter 1000, nice sound.
We only use the system for tv/movies so am looking for a clear dialog.
I think that I will purchase 2 tech def Promonitor 1000's and use the onkyo for surrounds.
I have a subwoofer, I assume that if I get too much bass from the fronts I can increase the crossover level.

Our room can't accommodate those tall speakers, are there any other recommendations
of front speakers that would work well with the def tech procenter1000 ? Want to keep the cost in the same ballpark and will only use them for tv/movies, desiring the clearest dialog ?

Why don't you get the matching Pro Monitor 1000 bookshelf speakers? I have them and they sound great for TV and home theater. They will match the sound of your Center channel. If the 1000's are too tall then consider the Pro Monitor 800's. You dialog will come from the center channel.
