I had it happen to me on audiogon.com. I found a pair of Totem Sttafs for $800.00. The seller said they were 6 months old. He had posted pics of the serial numbers. He had no feedback on audiogon, but did on ebay it was very good. I paid with my visa via paypal (I NEVER send cash) the money the next day. I had his e-mail, cell # and home #. I also had his girlfriends info as well. He claimed to have all boxes and was ready for shipment. After 2 weeks he quit responding to calls and email. I finally got through to him and he said he was waiting on new shipping boxes, the originals got damaged. I got off the phone and filed a dispute with both paypal and visa. They told me they would note it and give to him a couple of days to make it right. 2 days later I get an email from his girlfriend saying the post office dropped one of the speakers and broke it. I immediately called paypal and visa, and my money was credited to my card within 24 hours. I also disputed it on a'gon, hoping to warn others because this guy had several items for sale, but they never even posted it. In the meantime I received an email from Totem saying the serial numbers I sent them were from speakers built in '99 not '08.

the story is exactly the same, and manchester is the town he lives in. He gave a different address.
You know Western Union has this catch 22 where they only send info (like a copy of the licence this guy used to steal my money in manchseter) to police department officials. BUT the police will not do anything because it is not in their juristiction. I wondered whether the stealing could in fact be connected to the western union...... an employee at one of their stores who looks the other way at fake id in return for a cut
Anyway its frustrating that he is still out there and no one can or wants to do anything about it

Sometimes, people have local sources for deals (like Craigslist in the US) if a poster's general location is known.

I wanted to add that I did delete his ad soon after the initial post and with what RoadRunner and others had found. Marck4trading has also been banned.
