I was being stupid now I need your help with Banana Plugs

Hey guys, I recently bought a new power amp that only accepts bare wire, but the cable that i bought were all Banana Plug. Is there such a converter that goes from banana plug to bare wire? Or really small spades?

What amp do you have that only accepts bare wire?

Sadly they did not fully fill out their profile so not much info to go on.

Ah-ha! Nice older Mac amp. Yes, I have seen adaptors for these old-fashioned connectors to permit banana plugs.

Finding these could take some looking around. I might be able to help out; I'll do some checking.

Are you in Canada? I see a CSA sticker in the picture.

Here ya go: enter "screw to banana adaptor" in eBay in the Consumer Electronics category and you'll find examples.

Good find but they look like they could easily be shorted out, what with only that tiny barrier between the terminals.

Another, possibly cheaper, definitely safer, but much less visually appealing would be to get some stackable banana plugs, insert a short length of wire to attach to the amp, tape up the plug itself, and insert your plugs into the top of these.

The funny thing is that when these amps were made it was anticipated that we would be using 16 gauge lamp cord, not the fat botique cables they sell today.

Yep, lamp cord ruled in those days which I remember well. Flimsy, cheap "phono plug" interconnects were considered quite adequate too ... like THESE.

Any way you slice it those closely spaced terminals pose some shorting risk, whether bare wire, spades, or banana plug adaptors.
