    Clueless Student!?

    Hello All,

I need some speakers for my dorm room. After a little research I've numbered down my list to two:

    http://www.amazon.com/M-Audio-Studio.../dp/B000SDLNKA

    or

    http://www.amazon.com/Logitech-Z-5-U.../dp/B001F51G0W

I should also note that I have a MacBook; and the speakers will primarly be used to listen to music (trance, electro and a little hip hop) Is worth paying the extra 50 bucks for the av30's?

    Thanks

Ah, a little Toungue in Chico

Karl, I would say the M-Audio for sure just by the specs and weight, 3x the logitechs.

    Welcome and good luck.

Hey how 'bout a little gratitude for Karl here?!? I mean the guy invented socialism, where even guys like you get an equal share John.

Hey Karl, I second the M-Audio vibe. You'll be really pleased with their output.

    Welcome to AR.

Hey guys I appreciate the quick responses-- real swell, but I just came about "Harman Kardon SoundSticks II". I'm sucker for good looking stuff, so If I get these how does the quality compare to the AV30's. I don't mind losing a little.

    Thanks once again

sorry to bump once again but I just came about these will searching: Cyber Acoustics 3 pc Subwoofer/Satellite System CA-3602. They're dirt cheap, so how would these compare to the three above: av30 ,z-5 and Soundsticks. Will these be loud enough for a dorm room and is Cyber Acoustics a viable brand?

No it's cool, I'm just not certain about any of these novelty speakers you're asking about. Sorry, is there any other equipment in the chain aside from the Macbook?

You can do much better with your $100. May I suggest:

    Insignia NS-R2000 (100 wpc ) receiver - $67.98 at cowboom.com
    Dayton B652 6 1/2 inch speakers - $29.00 at Parts Express

The Dayton DTA-1 Class T digital amp is $44.80 at Parts Express and it will drive the B652 speakers nicely at normal listening levels but it won't rock them like the 100 watt Insignia receiver.
