Book shelf or floorstanding for surrounds?

I won some sony SSMB150H bookshelf speakers on ebay today and plan on buying some sony SSMF550H floor standing speakers in a couple of weeks. Right now I have some sony 6 year old floor standing speakers that are a cheaper older version of the SSMF550H with a 12" woofer.

The main reason I am doing this is to give my brother my old ht system. He's been w/out a job for awhile and I thought I could do something nice for him. So I'm torn between giving him my current floor standing speakers or the bookshelf speakers.

I plan on using my current floor standing or bookshelfs as my rears.Which would you keep? Or are you guys going to tell me to listen and keep the pair that sounds the best? I would think that the bass would sound better w/ my current floor standing speakers.

I would use the bookshelfs, but that's just me. I hate floorstanders.

They would look pretty ugly sitting in the back of the room plus they would be better fronts for my brother. I'm also guessing that the bookshelfs speakers would have clearer highs and mids.
