    Baby's got a new pair of DQM-9s!

Getting my pair of Dahlquist DQM-9s tomorrow via Fedex ground for the cost of shipping! I know the cones are shot, but decided not to go with Regnar for the time being. Will recone locally at Freeman-Tuell, who have serviced dozens of pairs of monitors in our recording control rooms & studios* for 30+ years. I seriously recommend them if you need any kind of speaker re-coning).
Will probably re-cap the crossovers, but will examine the old ones and may simply source them myself as I have plenty of cap catalogs around.
Anyone got any general recommendations for power amping? I gather these are some hungry boys. F-me for selling my Mac75s!!
So, like the cobbler's children with no shoes, my home-monitor needs have always been much less demanding. I can safely say this is the finest pair of monitors I've ever "owned". They represent my return to "Hi Fidelity" after 15 years of satellite speakers, and will easily outstrip my old Tannoy-8s! My wife has already declared that these "giant things" are going upstairs man-cave! OK Fine!

    * (For those into professional studios and acoustic design, our rooms were built in 1987, both are Tom Hidley designed and Kino$hita monitored. -- wow, it wouldn't let me spell Kino****a!)

Hi mdutch, welcome to AR. I'm only familiar with that brand by reputation. For brute force with finesse I'd look toward Krell or Pass Labs, Bryston as well, the Bryston I've heard seems to be a bit warmer and not quite the grip in the bass region which may not be a bad thing depending on taste.

I did some research on these speakers and what most owners were powering them with and they all said just what you did that they require a good deal of clean power to get the most out of them. Like Mr Peabody I would recommend the amps he mentioned and would add that the forums and discussions I read online seemed to tell me that most of the people running these speakers or have run them at one time or another seemed to prefer Bryston power amps and it seemed the 4b was the amp they mentioned the most that went well with this speaker. the good news on that is I have seen bryston 3,and 4b power amps on audiogon and other sites all the time for pretty reasonable prices so that might be something to take a close look at.
