speaker logs or stands?

i need to buy a set of stands, but all i'm finding are fire place log holders -flat black no design to them. whos designing these things?

looking for a modern/minimalist design to go with my house....

all i found was these bello's

Check Sanus and Target stands. Most stands are designed with sound quality over aesthetics in mind. Just ask Woochifer about his Sound Anchors . Because of that, there is usually a large tube or something that can be mass loaded to not only absorb vibration and provide a better ground coupling, but also prevent tipping of your precious speakers. It comes down to whatever is more important to you, style or substance?

Bello makes some of the most adventurous designs allthough I'd question their stability. Just looking at them, I sure wouldn't want my 4 yr old running into them.

Yep, those Bello's can't be loaded and look like they're ready to tip over already. Give me a chunk of iron over that any day!

Yup, those Sound Anchors are like the Apollo lunar modules -- they're ugly, but they get you there! (And if I attach some extra top plates to my stands, they'll hold plenty of logs too!)

I tried those Bell'Os and they're actually pretty stable. But, they are somewhat expensive (I think they're over $200 a pair) and I would not recommend them if your surround speakers weigh more than about 15 lbs.

The bottomline with speaker stands is that to a large extent, you do get what you pay for. The less expensive stands are typically the ones that cost the least to transport -- lighter weight, flat packaging, self assembly. Anything with some semblance of style to it will cost you more, anything that's heavier in construction will cost you more, anything with both style and heavy construction will cost you a lot more.

A lot of the more stylish stands are actually sold by the speaker manufacturers themselves. Sonus Faber, B&W, and Paradigm sell some very attractive stands that are also very stable, but you do pay for the privilege.

The Sound Anchors that I use are expensive, but very heavy duty. I went with their $350 adjustable studio stands because I needed something that could support a 28 lb. surround speaker and elevate them over 40" or so. They can also custom build stands for around $200. They cost more than other stands because they are welded together and not shipped in flat packed self-assembly boxes.

i ended up getting some proac tablette 8's for my mains now....pretty small speakers

with no kids

so i think i will spend about $200 for some nicer stands that my wife wont push me down the stairs everytime she looks at them in our living room. looking at some of you guys theater setups.....with all those amps on the floor in front of the tv....

my wife would box it all up and toss it in the garage.....life in a minimalist house.
