Bargain Alert: $25 iTunes cards for $20 at Michael's

It's not often that you see discounts on iTunes cards. Most of the current deals on iTunes cards already came and went on Black Friday, but Michael's (the arts and crafts store) has had this special running since mid-November.

It just is what it is -- buy a $25 iTunes card for $20. The special runs until December 4th.

Wonder how they are pulling that off? That has to be below cost. I don't see Apple selling them for less than $24.00 (or more).

Hey Beefy, good to see you again!

Yuh, I would guess that this is a loss leader deal for them. I had to pass the gauntlet of stocking stuffer items on the way to the checkout (actually, I had no idea of how much stuff other than arts and crafts that Michael's stocks for the holidays).

I only bought the gift cards, but it got me into the store and I actually spotted quite a few items that I might pick up later on. So, if I indeed make those purchases, then they will make up for whatever they lost with those iTunes transactions.

I also saw a similar deal last night at Safeway. They are selling four-packs of $10 iTunes cards for $34. Not as great a deal as Michael's, but still a nice discount. And that offer runs through December 14, while the deal at Michael's ends tomorrow.

The display signage at both stores for the iTunes card deals actually looks identical, so this very well might be a deal that those stores made directly with Apple.
