What's your favorite song about rain?
It was pouring here this morning, a welcome sight for an area that has been a little dry for most of this summer. I starting thinking about songs with rain in the title or had a rainy theme, and there's a ton of them. Naming my favorite was a difficult chore, and perhaps I took the easy way out with an obvious one;
Have You Ever Seen the Rain - Credence Clearwater Revival
Anyone who lists 'Laughter in the Rain' will be sentenced to death.

Ken Hensley
Ken Hensly - Uriah Heap

I have two from the same album.
Rainy Day....Dream Away
Still Raining.....Still Dreaming
Jimi Hendrix
It's just starting to rain here at 9:30. Thunder in the distance. I was going to cut the grass this morning before the rain. I did wash the car on Sunday, I wonder if that did it.

What Rain??
Rain? What's that? Haven't had any on the island since April, Swishmeister.
One of my all-time favorites is Ain't No Sunshine. I can't decide which version I like best, since both are top shelf in my books - Bill Whithers and Jose Feliciano.
On a side note - I am pumped about getting together in a couple of weeks:)

Derrr, the Beatles, Rain. Altho that Hensley pick is noice. :3:

I'm kinda partial to that extended David Eugene Edwards version in modern times ... http://forums.audioreview.com/rave-r...nes-20390.html
How about Dylan's "A Hard Rain's A-Gonna Fall", that's always been a favorite, love the Leon Russel version too. One could argue that as a protest song, it isn't really about rain, but the same applies to some of the others mentioned.
Oh, what’ll you do now, my blue-eyed son?
Oh, what’ll you do now, my darling young one?
I’m a-goin’ back out ’fore the rain starts a-fallin’
...
But I’ll know my song well before I start singin’
And it’s a hard, it’s a hard, it’s a hard, it’s a hard
It’s a hard rain’s a-gonna fall

Rain isn't mentioned in the lyrics of 'Ain't No Sunshine' buddy! See what happens when you haven't seen rain all summer?

I know to you, it might sound strange
But the Temptations 'I wish it would rain' is one of my fav's.

The Rain it Raineth - Dog Faced Hermans one of my all time fave's for rain, or any reason... I'm also very partial to blasting some Electric Ladyland when it's raining outside.

Amanda Marshall - Let It Rain
Marshall is a Canadian singer who had a very promising career but fell out of the spotlight for unknown reasons after her third CD. As far as I know she only does one show a year now, at a local Casino. Maybe they pay her enough so that she only has to work one day a year. That would be a nice gig. :)

LOL! We saw her live very early on in her career, probably around the time of the video that I posted and her constant wrist flopping drove us crazy. It was very distracting. Then we saw her again a few years later and she had obviously had some lessons on stage presence as her physical actions were very different and very toned down. Much less distracting to watch.
When you're here, remind me to give you a copy of her first CD. I think that you'll really enjoy it.

I just heard another great one that fits this category.
Happy When it Rains - The Jesus and Mary Chain
I'd all but forgotten this gem until I heard is on Sirius XMU yesterday. As usual, the sound was terrible but the song brought back some great memories.

Rainy Night in Georgia - Tony Joe White (and many others)
I see the rain - The Marmalade
I wish it would rain down - Phil Collins

Again, not that it's really about rain except as metaphor, but ...
you strangle me
entangle me
in hopelessness and prayers for rain
"Prayers for Rain" is one of my favorite Cure songs, from one of my favorite albums by anyone. A lot of people think Disintegration is murky and claustrophobic sounding, but I think a lot of people have not heard the original German Fiction CD. Sounds great. Dense production for sure, but I love the way it ends with the backward loops, whimsical sounding after what came before, and the storm breaking through in "The Same Deep Water as You"... Smith at his most passionate...
swimming in the same deep water as you is hard
kiss you and we shall be together
And the title track that comes apart next is just one more despairing breakup closer to the end, though it only comes apparent later...
songs about happiness
murmured in dreams
when both of us knew
how the ending would be
Prayers for Rain from the German Fiction CD up at song of the day now...
I leave you with photographs and pictures of trickery
stains on the carpet and stains on the memory
songs about happiness murmured in dreams
when we both of us knew how the end always is
how the end always is...

duh - The Who?
Only love,
Can make it rain,
The way the beach is kissed by the sea.
Only love,
Can make it rain,
Like the sweat of lovers laying in the fields.
Love, Reign o'er me.
Love, Reign o'er me, Rain on me.
On the dry and dusty road,
The nights we spend apart alone.
I need to get back home to cool, cool rain.
I can't sleep and I lay and I think,
The night is hot and black as ink.
Oh God, I need a drink of cool, cool rain.
Only love,
Can bring the rain,
That makes you yearn to the sky.
Only love,
Can bring the rain,
That falls like tears from on high.
Love, Reign o'er me.
Love, Reign o'er me, on me.

LOL! I got confused and was thinking that this was the "offensive lyrics" thread. I was scratching my head wondering what's so offensive about The Who's song.
:blush2:
