I did order Denise Williams new album, The Real Thing. I think it's going to be good, it's more Jazz vocal it seems but I shall see.

A few night back, I stopped by my local McD for a quick snap. The place was very quiet and the kids in the kitchen were playing some techno. I like what I was hearing and ask what it was. Hydrid.

This morning I check this stuff on You Tube. Good but do not know if it will hold to repeat listening...

So, does anyone has any recommendation of other techno in a similar style that could be of interest to yours truly?

Recently picked up something called Escala. I can only compare them to TranSiberian Orchestra except it's not Christmas music and it's a whole lot better in my opinion because I don't really like TranSiberian. Escala is a lot of violin, other orchestral type accompaniment with modern drums and a couple tracks have guitar. One of my favorite tracks is their cover of Kashmir which features a taste of guitar from none other than Slash. I'm sure he was added as an attention getter, smart move.

Sorry, Doc, I'm not much into Techno. The closest I probably come is Michael Ofield who you might like, Tubular Bells, portion which was made famous as the theme to the Exorcist. You might also like Manheim Steamroller. I'll have to check that Hybrid to see how they sound. I've got some Rob Zombie and Rammstein but something tells me this isn't quite your style :)

I used to hate this album, but it's been very busy of late.

I'm finding this one easy to like. Only a couple listens so far. Lots of good songs. Sometimes seems to subtly channel Queen and The Who's rock opera mode. As an album, maybe its a bit jumbled from one track to the next. 18 tracks'll do that. They're certainly clearing the air on some issues; probably would have been more timely a year ago. It's punk sentimentality would seem more appropriate if, for example, Palin were VP. 3 stars.

Album art like this deserves to be 12 x 12.

Great Original Performances 1923-1931 KBBC/MFSL BBC CD 597/Louis Armstrong. Very hard to find this disc but boy it shines.

Yep, The Residents! Hard to believe these odd-ball-geniuses have been at it since 1972, but that's what happens when you're not paying attention. This album (Petting Zoo) was released in 2002 and is a best of compilation. It includes all the favorites: How to Get a Head, God's Magic Finger, Wolverines. The Residents are an enormously talented and quirky band, and I believe they've appeared with Penn and Teller in various shows. Not for the faint of heart or dull of brain, The Residents are simply and truly the real deal!

That's one of my favorite musician photos.

Some might cvomplain that the latter music of Vangelis is a rehash of the same thing. While certainly the edge of technology's shore is certainly played out, rare gems do pop up every now and then; and it is the canny one most familiar with that shore who recognizes it when it does. Vangelis is one such musician, with numerous albums to his credit and a sound that is uniquely his and his alone. Critics have derided this album as trite, and a parody of his earlier bombastic compositions and the schmarmy, cloying oeuvre of yesteryear. Be that as it may be, this is the music that fans of Vangelis throughout the world have come to love and admire. Voices will make them all a bit happier for it just the same!

Miles and Coltrane Complete Columbia Recording '55-'61.

I just ordered a LP box set of Miles Davis Great Prestige Recordings (Analogue Productions). What's crazy is that I don't own a single Miles by the Prestige. I hope this set is much better than Blue Note's $50 reissues.

I also have been listening to BT's Emotional Technology disc, interesting stuff and a lot of fun if your system plays deep.

Would that be the Black And White Night LP? If is, great offering, outstanding guest artists and pretty good SQ as well. One of my fav RO LPs. Enjoy.

I finally picked up Mass Romantic, the debut disc by the New Pornographers, mostly at the urging of my daughter. You know what? She's right. This is a really good album, all the way thru. Not sure why I held out until now.

Better late than never, I guess.
