Congrats!!! It is, indeed, the end of a long journey of accomplishment and the beginning of a new chapter in life. Enjoy these next few years as much as possible before mortgages, betrothment and other obligations take hold fully (read: Buy you toys now!)
Is Japan a permanent relocation or a visit to home? In any case be safe and have a good time.
Do yourself a favor and pick up Hank Mobley's Roll Call on 24/96 DAD that was mentioned in the other thread. You in particular will love it. Incidently it is "What is spinning" right now...
Cheers

Thanks bobsticks,
just in for about 2 weeks. Went to this place called Akihabara in Tokyo. The Electronic central, and got alot of cool stuff.
Went to a music store and had a dedicated SACD section and it was HUGE!!!!!!!! But didnt wanna spend over $30 a copy so grabbed Supreme Jazz SACD for aobut $12 a piece. Silver, Monk, Rollings, Adderley, and Peterson. Can`t wait to get back to play on my system, but def`ly enjoying time with my fam.
Peace,
Jay Ra

SACD John Mayall & Friends, mastered by Steve Hoffman, This is a great disc.
-
Enjoying these right now (one after the other):
"Hank Mobley's 1961 effort Roll Call." Thanks bobsticks. Another one for the Jazz journey. Must say so far I prefer Jazz on Vinyl much more, but this one sounds great on the silver disc.
"Brian Seymour - When I was Blonde". A 2002 release.
"Rosanne Cash - Black Cadillac"
"Tab Benoit - Brother to the Blues".
Just noted. What a mix. Jazz, Rock,Country and Blues.
Peace

I always say that I'm not much on Christmas music, but I seem to have accumulated quite a bit of it. Of course, Handel's Messiah and The Nutcracker Suite are classics, Diana Krall's album last year was pretty good and even Ashanti Moore's album of a few years ago wasn't bad.
This, however, is my all time favorite hands down:

Christmas with the Rat Pack, classic!
Cheers and Merry Christmas, happy holidays, seasons greetings, or whatever turns yer crank.

Enjoying this afternoon these:
"Spoon - Gimme Fiction"
"Built To Spill - You in Reverse"
"Albert Lee - Road Runner"

A jingle-jangling stocking stuffer...
From one of the ladies at the office I received Real Live Roadrunning a two disc set of live performances from the Mark Knoplfler and Emmylou Harris venture.
While neither the video or audio (2 channel/DTS) is exactly reference grade, both are more than servicable. The songs, of course, are solid and certainly brought to a new life by the inclusion of a cadre of Nashville hired guns. [B]Song for Sonny Liston[/B benefits from some fantastic solo sections from country/bluegrass' brightest and Belle Starr and If This Is Goodbye are showstoppers. If you liked the studio album you'll be properly enamored with this. Lotta fun.
Cheers

well,
i'm going to play every record that i have (not too much, but ok) again, i have to find out how they sound with the new cart!!!
Keep them spinning,

Suffering from jet lag.... I would love to listen to records with my new cart, but I cant use headphones with my LP setup.
Stella by Starlight - The Great Jazz Trio Hank Jones. 2ch SACD rec. Sep "06.
Everyone's gonna have a great year
JRA
-
Donna Summer - Live and more
have to record it for a friend of my dad, it's also his record, but i think it will stay here for a while...
-
DS? Hmmmmm... not right now, but I know exactly where it is.
But instead,
Duke Pearson - Profile
on wax
-
duke pearson, i believe i know him from somewhere, *thinks* aaah, yeah, that's it i have one song of him on a compilation album, named "Christo Redentor" it's nice, very nice actually, are his other songs in the same style, or is this a "special" song, can't find any of his albums/records...
have to search a little bit longer i guess...
Btw, How's your jet lag JRA?
Keep them spinning,
Bert.
-
I've never heard that song on Donald Byrd(1963) so I cant tell ya, but the album profile was recorded in 1959. So I imaging the style is fairly close. He was an aspiring Trumpter until he heard Wyton Kelly's performance, then he took on Piano again. I'm glad he did. I highly recommend it if you can find it.
NS: Hank Crawford - Soul of the Ballard on MF
It's a great album and a recording. I can hear my new cart opening up.

sergio mendes - timeless,
sounds great with the new denon cart, so does
prince - 3121
Keep them spinning,
Bert.

Checkin' out The Brand New Heavies' Get Used To It on the little silver disc. This one is funky and to the point while still retaining much of their nu-jazz feel.Good stuff.
-
Spinning a shiney black disc.
Slick Rick - Behind Bars
it's not gonna get much better than this.

just bought them today,
Djuma soundsystem - Les Djins remixes, on 12" wax, bought this because my mom heard the trentemoller remix on the radio and she liked it, so i checked it and i liked it too, it's very well recorded i must say, pretty much one of my best records (exept a few old ones that haven't worn out yet, (thanks dad for finally learning how to set up your tt))
also on wax,
Buscemi - Retro Nuevo, very very good too, he's a dj who combines jazz and bossa nova with dance and lounge, fabulous...
on cd,
Horace Silver quintet - Silver's serenade, heard it on a compilation cd and immediately wanted it...
Grant Green - Idle moments; after a long long search I finally found a shop who had it, finally, good, now i want it on vinyl...
not bought today:
Philip Caterine - Summer night, for all the jazz fans: if you don't know this guy, then find out who it is and buy this album, he's a guitar genius...
Keep them spinning,
Bert.

Hey Bert,
Grant Green and Horace Silver--two faves; very nice!
At the moment I'm checking out the Abko release of the Rolling Stones'Big Hits. Sadly, it just kind of proves that even DSD transfers are subject to the limitations of the original source material. Oh well its still the Stones and later it will be on to bigger and better...
Cheers Attachment 2339

Bert, which Grant Green do you have spinning? I have the album Wave you can have, if I can get your Grant Green.:ihih: Com'on, you know you need it. Just doing you a favor is all.
Just played
The Roots - Game Theory
based on nobody's recommnedation. I dig it alot, and think it's the best album they have put out since the 90s.
One of my friends just rented Nacho Libre and she is extremely excited about it fot some reason, so I'm off. Everyone have a safe night.
