Tunesday Tunes on Inauguration Day

Fun day in history. Man, I wouldn't wanna be President in these times! I have a feel that President Obama is gonna be looking a lot older this time next year.

Me, I've been spinning a lot of Broken Social Scene the last week or two. I fell in love with You Forgot It In People, which was kinda their debut (though later the "real" debut from a bit earlier got a wider release) and it became one of my goto records. But for some reason, probably because I didn't want to chance spoiling that lingering charm, I never picked up the self-titled next one. And even odder (odder? is that a word? sure doesn't look right ), I actually bought that soundtrack to two chicks sipping coffee at Starbuck's by Feist a coupla years ago. Good for a few listens, but now retired to the probably never gonna play again pile.

So back on track, I'm at the library a couple weeks ago cruising the stacks for some new reads, and before checking out with something new from (appropriately Toronto's own) Karl Schroeder and something else from Alastair Reynolds, I stopped by the rather pitiful picked over CD racks and spied the 2005 Broken Social Scene 2-CD set, so snared it and the rest is history. Took a couple listens to the main disc before it really started happening for me, but after that, I like it! Seemed kind of all over the place at first, kind of disconnected, but then it started to come together. Just got a email this morning that it's due back in a couple days, which means it was actualy about 3 weeks ago, think I'll renew. Fun album. The EP has some good stuff on it too, though I haven't begun to explore that one enough yet. Wanders around in some cool ambience, and then breaks into more familiar BSS sound. Guess I'll need to buy a copy now.

Yep, ole big ears is gonna look like he is 60 in a year. I do believe its due to not sleeping the whole time in office. W looked just like his old man after a year in office. Best album ever on some days around my playground. Hard to say exactly why, or why many think of it as one of their lessor achievements, but always does something good to me. Love the cool song descriptions on the back with the phony play times that Ira says were lifted at random from a book about the Blues Project, though once in a while they seem almost perfect, not random choices at all, especially for the last song "Blue Line Swinger", "Patterns Of Sound Are My Bag Right Now" ...

Silliest album cover ever, seems kind of strange after selling a couple hundred thousand copies of Fox Confessor to come back with such a cheesy cover, but maybe I'm just blind to current fashion. Or maybe it's just a joke and they will ship with a professional cover? Hehehe, Neko has a couple screws loose, but I do love her, and in any case, sounds like it'll be a good one. They released the single as a free download awhile back with the record company backing and making a contribution for each official download to Best Friends Animal Society to keep places like Pet Smart from mistreating puppies ... so it's available all over ... like at http://www.quarterlifeparty.com/wp-c...otta_nerve.mp3 ... nothing new or out of character, but nice to hear something new ... A vastly underated talent who transformed himself from "minstrel" tell of teenaged love to champion of civil rights to chronicler of urban decay and despair. You couldn't go wrong with the above.
