I’ll play, after all there’s no accounting for taste right? Can't say these were carefully selected. They're just things I always thought sounded good. (Flac)

You Can Never Go Home – House of Freaks (1988)
I always liked this one. Nice spare sound.

No Big Deal – Love & Rockets (1989)
    Crisp.

Cumbia & Jazz Fusion – Mingus Big Band (1997)
A long one. Someday I’d like to hear it on a big system. I think it makes a good demo track. Everything from Conch shell to tuba. I had to zip it in two parts. Open part one with a zip extractor and it should ask for part two. Total size 104Mb.

I've been meaning to play too, just can't get work to get out of the way.

Been contemplating and came up with a couple of tracks that I think sound good but I haven't looked at the wav form yet to see if it stands up to scrutiny.

FYI, IF anyone is interested, I looked around on the internet and came up with a good place to look for some ideas to get me going. I found a great site to start with and was pleasantly surprised to see Toy Matinee was regarded as a 5 star reference CD. Never really my thing, but Troy digs it!

Here's the site if anyone is interested: http://johnvestman.com/commercial_cds.htm

Now, I've to to prepare for a group of international investors who are looking to purchase this property! Like I don't have enough to do as it is : (

Now this is what I'm talking about. Kind of a so-so song but made much better due to the outstanding production values. Davey's Nina Nastasia pick also fits this description.

Well, I've got some more listening to do.

Actually, after about three or four spins I've really come to like "One Old Woman". So how is the rest of On Leaving?

Beautiful record, maybe even a minor masterpiece in another time. Albini is so in touch with her. That song has some of the amazing epic drum sound he captures so well, like you are there, so that's one of the main reasons I picked it. Only a couple other songs with the drums that prominent, "Dumb I Am" being another with a bit of Celtic flavor. I probably play her first record "Dogs" the most, but really like this one. A couple years down the road, and I have the feel that it's still growing on me. "One Old Woman" kind of stands out though, encapsulating many of the qualities that make her recordings special to me, but it's also one of the only songs where she really lets go on this one. They keep the instrumentation kind of quiet most of the time, so overall it's not very dramatic sounding. It's a very lyrical album, so take that as a warning ... if need be

No more ethical/unethical than a CD-R in the mail.

Here's one I like to play loud, just for the vocal performance alone - Opeth's Hours Of Wealth...uh, no...it isn't what you think.

Is this ripped from the DVD? My computer is telling me it's 44.1kHz/24bit. I can convert it to 16bit pretty easily if so.

Yeah, I don't care if you omit the jazz. I thought it would be fun to listen to incase someone was curious, but if yer making an actual CD-R comp, then no, I wouldn't include them either.

OK, so I lied. Here's one for ya...a country tune from way back. No, not even an alt. country act, but a corporate one: Diamond Rio, from the Love A Little Stronger album (name of band and title of album is a dead give-away that its a country band).

The track is Night Is Fallin' In My Heart...now don't click away yet...this is one of the better sounding discs I own, not to mention one of the few country albums I haven't parted company with when I dabbled in country a few years back. It has a bluegrass feel to it, though it isn't bluegrass.

Slosh, you ain't gotta consider all the tracks I'm submitting, I'm just doing it for fun. But you'd be surprised how good this song sounds on a good system.

That's the only song of theirs I have (taken off 3LB's 1983 comp IIRC)

We'll if you want a larger Fixx sampler let me know. I got Reach the Beach and Phantoms. Most the rest is not as kickin. They're a few steps above one hit wonders but not many.

Thank you all for some great stuff...

    ...except you 3-Lock

I have a few of these, but a lot of them are new to me, so I'll be composing my own cdr from the lot of it. I don't use Media Monkey very much, but it should be fairly straight forward, even for a geezer.

Oh, I can’t help myself. A couple more. (flac)

Dem Bones (Carla Cook) is REALLY well done. Spare funky bass, crystal clear female vocal, a little bit of keyboard, and 3 trombones. Yup, 3. Trombones just sound so cool. If I had any talent and wanted to be cool (in that way that’s really only cool in one's own head) I’d be a trombone player.

Violence of Truth (The The) just sounds good. It’s got a kind of distant quality to it that adds to the sense of futile anger, I suppose. There’s some racial slurs in there I would normally not tolerate. I truly don’t believe are meant to be hateful, but they certainly could be objectionable. Barring physics, I don’t think you can play it too loud. The doom guitar riff sells it for me.

    Speed Lab!

I haven't forgotten about this but life has kinda gotten in the way, as it tends to do. Still got it on the back-burner. I scanned through it a bit this morning and it definitely needs some more rawking songs to prevent it from becoming a snoozefest. To that end check out this John Vanderslice song:

    http://www.mediafire.com/?in8d9d4d2gn

Although there already is enough music linked to this thread to create two CD-Rs I would like to have more people participate. I guess six contributers actually is representative of this board nowadays. Never hurts to ask though.
